Question Dealership Question

I am taking my 04 FX4 Scab to the Ford dealer to take a look at my truck beacuse I have had the notorious vibe in my truck for about 3 months. Anyways, when I asked the dealer if they would provide me with a loaner or rental car since they would proably have my truck a while the dealer said "Ford doesn't do that". I am confused cause it seems like everyone I have talked to has gotten a loaner vechile from the Ford dealer when they take it in for service and its going to be in the shop for a couple of days. Is this normal or is the dealer just being cheap, any ideas on how to get the dealer to cough up a loaner car?

Get a new dealer. Some do it, most don't. Many normally only offer it in your first few months if you have problems. After that they could care less about you.

dz is correct.

Tell them that you value customer service and if they can't provide it, you'll find a dealership that will. Further, remind them that you will buy another vehicle one of these days and that you'll remember something like this...

I understand the reasoning and further understand the liability but, it's really a simple thing to keep a customer happy and costs SO little for them to do it...

I agree with trying another dealership. I always get a loaner when I bring my truck in, but I also just lemon-lawed a mustang gt. Not sure if that has any influence on their decision.

I've also heard that if you purchase the ESP it has a provision for loaners, not sure if you have the ESP but I plan on picking it up when I return home.

Actually, you'd be surprised how much loaner vehicles can cost a dealership. At one time a couple years ago, we had something like $50,000 in claimed damage on our loaners by the end of the year. Loaner vehicles are comparatively expensive for dealers to issue out, even though it is a nice gesture for the customer.

The ESP will aid you in paying for a rental, it's not a free loaner! Think standard deal pays $14/day for up to 5 days. Check your plan for details.

Dz, ESP is up to $28.00 a day for up to 10 days now. It usually has to be an overnight repair though. I agree that they should give you a loaner for a day or two maybe if its the infamous "vibe" problem. Ford does give the dealer so many days of rental car re-imbursement each month for this type of thing.

I'm going through this very issue right now. My truck has been in the shop for 4 days straight now and probably won't get it back until tomorrow. I knew before I dropped it off that it would take awhile. When I made the appt. the service advisor gave me an excuse that they couldn't get a loaner. Actually, he said that Ford was reclaiming all loaners and this would not be an option in the future. I immediately called the service Manager and complained/stated my case. Within the hour, the service Manager called back and said he'd have a loaner waiting for me.

If you don't like that the advisor first tells you, call the Manager - You can usually get better service.

If they need your truck for 10 days they better well provide a replacement.... if your monthly payment is $600 and they have it for a 1/3 of a month, you just paid Ford $200 for honor of having it sit on a lift for 10 days while you drive a friggin' Hyundai rental.

Nice.

Is this the dealer you bought the truck from? I wouldn't expect the dealer to provide me with a car if I didn't buy the truck from them, however if I did then I would. Ask the salesman you bought the truck from and he maybe able to help....unless he was one of those here today gone tomorrow name written on his card in pen salemen.

I'm pretty sure my ESP is as SAJEFFC described but it also depends on which plan you have. Mine only pays if the repair is covered under the ESP. The top of the line plan pays no matter what I think.
