04/05 stylside 6.5 box problems

I just recieved a letter from Ford that was sent to all owners of 2004 2005 F150 Style Side F150's with the 6.5 ft boxes. The letter states:

"During vehicle production and aluminum-backed butyl pad may have been added to the inside surface of the right hand side box outer panel in front of the tail lamp. This pad may be trapping moisture between the box outer panel and the butyl pad. The trapped moisture could potentially lead to corrosion between the butyl pad and the inside surface of the box outer panel."

It goes on to say that they will remove the butyl pad at no charge or if significant corrosion has already taken place they will replace the outer box panel.

Anybody else get this. It says that most will need to go into the shop for about a half a day and they will not be giving out loaners vehicles. Great.

I think I heard somewhere in here that there is a TSB on it?? I have not heard until now that Ford is mailing letters about it, thats good though. At least Fords doing something about it now instead of later when it could be much worse.
About the loaner car....well what the heck? Ford messed up and won't give you a loaner car for there mistake?? haha Trust me, I don't have the 6.5 bed, but if I did and if I had that patch on, I'd get a loaner car. Now way would I be not given a loaner car for Fords mistake and have me carless for a half a day or so.

I agree. Ford screwed up, but they won't pay for a loaner car? You have to take time off work and take your car to the shop because of them and they don't pay? Ford needs to realize they don't gain any new customers and will have to buy back a few more trucks because of their pissy attitude.

Sorry, I didn't realize that someone posted about this already. I don't know about the TSB but it says it's "Customer Satisfaction Program 04B23.

Bigsherm....a lot of guys are just scrapping it out themselves and then getting the proper prep and paint for the area. In either case, I would get it taken care of ASAP...did you see mine? Its now in the bodyshop getting the the entire bed side replaced. OH and I do have a loaner car. Its from the dealership though,,,not Ford.

Now where exactly do you look for this? Is it inside the fender well in front of the tail lamp?....or outside pannel somewhere?

...........never mind...I found it.

I had mine done monday... I watched as the tech did the job also because they tend to use there inspection sticker scraper to get the pad off.....Which scratches the inner box side and will start to rust anyway! Tards.... So, the pad is large, its on the passenger side bedside right behind the taillight, and its LARGE... They take off the old pad, clean it with acid...Then apply a layer of undercoating or paint....

Yeah brew, I'm going to contact my dealer tom. and try to set an appointment (and argue for a loaner car). Mine might be pretty bad because I think I was one of the first on this board to take delivery of my truck (Aug 2003) and we have all 4 seasons here in Baltimore.

Yes..the letter states 6 1/2 foot bed only.

Bigsherm...Look on the right side of the bed right where your 4X4 sticker is in this pic. If you see any paint bubbles, you need a new bed side

Does anyone understand the purpose of these butyl pads being installed in the first place?...

From what I have read, it only applies to the 6.5' bed for vehicles that had a build date of September 10, 2003 or earlier.
