Mine shutters, or acts like it is going to stall sometimes. Happens when I try to pass, or when coming out of acceleration. Hasn't bothered me too much... yet.

Do a search on stalling. This has been covered dozens of times. You need to have your dealer flash the PCM with a new program, or replace it.

Sounds like it's on the verge of stalling, I'd still take it in and ask them to flash the PCM.

It may not..

It may not be the PCM... I'm having issues and they've gotten worse since the PCM was reflashed. The truck is now stalling anytime I slow down. It's becoming dangerous. I'm taking it in AGAIN and hope their able to figure out what is happening.

You may need a new PCM, and not the reflash. A lot of the people with this problem had trucks that came from the KC factory. Let us know what happens.

Update....

Here is the update from today's visit. I dropped the truck odd this morning at 0730. My regular service rep was not in so I spoke to a different advisor. Don't you hate it when you have to explain EVERYTHING again. I had printed info from this thread, but Mr. 20 year advisor was not interested in what I found. His reply... "you can't believe everything you read on the internet". I've been doing this for 20 plus years... Blah, Blah... Blah. I wasn't happy when I left. I called and left a message or two with NO reply so I decided to go back to the dealer to ask some questions. I spoke with another advisor who I had delt with in the past. I wasn't interested in speaking with Mr. 20 year man. They've ordered a new PCM, but it won't be in for 2-3 days. They said they'd do that first and if it didn't correct the problem... they'd order some hard wiring harness. If the wiring harness doesn't work... they'll order a throttle body. Here's my problem with this. The truck has already been in the shop three days. I have to drive it stalling every stop for the next 2-3 days. I then have to take to truck BACK in for the PCM replacement. I'll be lucky if that gets done in one day. Now when that doesn't work they'll take 2-3 days to get the wiring harness. I'll then have to take the truck back again.... do you see where I'm going with this? I spent 30,000.00 plus for a truck and I WANT TO DRIVE IT!!! Because I'm a valued customer.... replace the PCM, wiring harness and throttle body ALL at the same time. I don't think this is too much to ask. I do know one thing... if all they do is replace the PCM and it doesn't fix the problem... the survey will read as follows. F, F, F, F etc etc for all failing grades!!

Thanks,
Rich

I just left a message with the service manager explaining the whole situation. I asked him to approve doing the PCM, Wiring Harness and Throttle body all at the same time. I will see what he says and keep you posted......

Don't hold your breath on that one...throwing a lot of parts at a vehicle under warranty at one time throws up red flags to Uncle Henry, the claim may get charged back to that dealer unless they have damn good evidence showing that all those parts were the cause of your problems.

Good luck.

I know...

I know what you're saying, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I decided to just leave the truck at the dealership. I guess the PCM will be here in a couple days. Why pick it up to just drive it back in a couple of days. My brother in-law is in Iraq so at least I can drive the Mercury Grand Marque. Driving in style.... lol

I just received a call from the service manager. He's going to call Ford in the morning and see if he can get all three items approved. He doesn't feel I'm asking for something unreasonable. He also knows I've purchased my last 4-5 trucks from that dealership. They are also BIG on receiving TOP marks on the surveys. They must get some type of dealership bonus or something?

Thanks for the input.

Rich

Quintin

Quintin, you and my brother in-law would hit it off. The more guns the better for him. He spent 4 years in the Marines and has been in security ever sence. He's currently working for a company call Blackwater in Iraq. They were detailed to protect the elections. Everytime he calls I hear at least one cat bomb explode in the background.

He's the one on the far right. Say a prayer for him and the rest of our troops tonight. I forgot to mention.... $66,000.00 for a 4 month tour. Not too bad... if you make it home alive that is. He loves the rush of it. Not for me. I was 10 years Air Force!! lol

This is true...we've done that a few times, just with Ford's warranty cut backs, dealers usually try their hardest to keep warranty repairs at a minimum, since high repairs in certain areas may give Ford enough reason to send investigators down to do an audit, which is like the Ford Motor Company version of a complete rectal examination and a root canal simultaneously.

Survey scores are a big deal to dealers too, since they get lots of kickbacks and bonuses from good survey scores. Ford's asinine survey system is either all or nothing. The survey has to be marked "Completely satisfied" on everything, or it's considered a failure, a "bad service experience."

And godspeed to your brother-in-law...I've got a few friends running around in the sandbox over yonder, a few are due back stateside soon, hopefully your brother-in-law isn't too far behind them.

The latest...

I received a call today from my service rep. It's my understanding a Ford Engineer was at their dealership today. He was there for another vehicle, but he was able to look at mine as well. He states the PCM is fine and will NOT be swapped out. He states replacing the throttle body will correct the issue. I guess the throttle body in the morning and I should have the truck by 1:00. It figures a Ford rep comes in and doesn't want the EXPENSIVE PCM replaced. Maybe he knows what he's doing? I just want the truck back. I want a 100% running truck back. My wife keeps reminding me her 98 Expedition with 95,000 miles on has never been in for a single problem. Other than tires and oil changes the vehicle has been perfect.... quick, where is some wood to knock on? It has the 4.6 and it's been awesome. Anyway, I love my new 04 F-150.... I just hope this throttle body is the solution.

Thanks,
Rich

Just picked up the truck...

I just got the truck back. I drove it home with no stalls. All they did was replaced the throttle body. It was a 20 minute drive home with lots of stops and no stalls. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I spoke to the Engineer and he stated he's had this stalling problem on 4 vehicles in the area. Replacing the throttle body fixed all 4 of them.

I'll drive it for a few days and post an update.
