These Perfromance Tuners???
May I suggest you phone Mike or Anita at Troyer Performance and talk to them about tuners. Personally I chose the X-Calibrator with 3 tunes. Their hours of operation at from 10:00AM until 7:00PM Monday through Friday. Phone is 540-862-9515.
You will be glad you made the call.......

The tuners only work between 10am and 7pm??...LOL
Just kidding Marc... Thanks for that info and when I buy I'll consider them..
I'd like to read some actual experiences from installing them, programing them to exactly what people see/feel...Do they hurt MPG???

Thats why I suggested you call them. They are undoubtedly the best there is to deal with, and they can answer ALL your questions.
The tuner I use on my 04 Supercrew is the X-Calibrator. Once you discuss your desires for performance, Mike then loads 3 tunes into this unit. Mine are as follows.
#1 87 ocatne towing compatible
#2 93 octane towing compatible
#3 94 octane maximum performance non towing compatible.
All three tunes have different A/F ratios, timing advances, and transmission shift points. The throttle response on all 3 is instantanious and there is no lag once you hit the throttle.
I can not give you the exact power increases on the 3 tunes I have, but I will speculate that the 87 octane tune gives me around 8-10 HP, the 93 15-20 HP, and the 94 upwards of 30-35 HP. By changing the shift points to a higher RPM under various throttle positions it allows the motor to get nearer to the maximum HP rpm which is 4000 rpm. And in my case at WOT my 1-2 upshift occurs at 5100rpm, and the 2-3 upshift occurs at 5200rpm. Of course under lighter throttle pressure it shifts well before those points.
Gas mileage should be improved with all 3 tunes. Of course that depends on how you drive your vehicle. If you go WOT from stop light to stop light, or from point A to point B, then you will more than likely not realize any improvement in gas mileage.
Hope this helps. Pick up that phone and call Troyer and he will be glad to give you further explanitaions on the benfits of performance tuning these trucks.

OH yea, I opted for the 24 hour operational tuner

i didn't realize that ohio had 94 octane fuel. We only get as high as 93 in North Carolina. What does he change between the 93 and the 94 octane tunes? Hopefully I will be getting one of these soon.
I got the Xcalibrator with my tunes set up as follows
1. stock tune
2. 87-octane performance
3. 93-octane tow-preferred
4. 93-octane max-performance
Have to say it’s made a huge difference (fun to drive) in the drivability of the truck. Right now, I got my 93-octane tow-preferred tune loaded just to try it and compare it to the other tunes. I’ve noticed that the tow-preferred setting shifts very smooth, even at WOT, compared to crisper shifts the performance tunes afford.

I have not messed with the x-calibrator and unsure of its power potential, but I have/had the 1714 and the Diablo Predator. The diablo predator is by far a superior product. It also has the ability for custom tunes and ALOT more adjustability on the users end. It also has many more features then the 1714/x-calibrator offer.

I ordered the Xcalibrator for my '05. It will be here tomorrow!
I expect a big difference. Talking with Mike Troyer, he explained that the PCM code in my '05 (TEM4) was just AWFUL. It's funny because I thought that waiting until the '05s came out would ensure I got the best F150 possible and most of the bugs would be worked out. Mine is worse than a lot of '04s! It's ridiculous - I don't know why Ford has to screw with so many PCM revisions.
Anywho - I'll be installing the 87 Perf tune tomorrow, and the 93 Perf tune when I empty my current tank. I'll report back whith my results.
I also encourage you to call and talk with Mike or Anita - I'm convinced Mike knows more on this subject than anyone I'll ever meet and he's more than willing to share that knowledge with you.
Also - check out the Computer Chips forum on this site - lots of good info!
good luck!

Thanks JD,
These pcm codes must be updated quite often. Our trucks were basically ordered at the same time and my code is TEM5.
I'd really like to know how much of an improvement you get with your tuner. I thought my truck ran pretty darned good as is.

I LOVE these wheels! I had them picked out months before I bought my truck. They are the chrome version. Pretty easy to keep clean - I wash my truck at least every 2 weeks because of the brake dust issues on these trucks and just use the car wash shampoo I use on the rest of the truck. Just this weekend, I put a coat of Meguires NXT wax on them that should help out with the cleaning and help protect them.
