Magnaflow
Magnaflow
Whats up guys..
I just got my Magnaflow 15821 Exhaust system from Performance Peddler. I haven't looked at the directions yet, as I am at work. It says its a full bolt on kit, but how easy is the install really? I have ramps, but it doesn't allow for that much space under the truck. Do I have to do any cutting? Any info from guys who have done their own install on this system would be great.

You may have a problem. I have an 04 Larriat SC and was about to order a new Magnaflow exhaust when I noticed that Magnaflows webiste says that the exhaust will not fit 04's with a production date after June and will not fit the 05's. I called them to confirm this and they said Ford made a running change in June of 04 that changed the pipes coming into the muflter. Magnafow did say that they will have a new part number in the next few weeks for the late model o4 and 05's. I did hear from a guy who installed one on an 04 with a production date is September and he said Magnaflows infromation was correct. To install it, he had to take it to a mufler shop and have pipe made.
ahh dammit. I saw that on the website too, but the wording was strange. I checked their website before I ordered it and it didn't say that. Any idea how much your buddy had to pay to get the pipes to fit?
I'm in the same boat. I have an '05 with the "different" intermediate pipe. I had ordered the Magnaflow 15834 SIDO rear exit from Troyer and it got shipped to me before we realized there was a change. I tried a test fit and no go!
So I'm waiting for the '05 version. The GOOD NEWS is that Magnaflow has finished the fitment for the '05's and its going into production now! It will be a February release date, but not sure when in Feb.
Check out this thread in the exhaust section - on page 2 you'll see pics I took of the my '05 stock exhaust and how it's different than the '04. Seems like Ford makes these little changes just to screw with the aftermarket....who knows.

ok, I'll take a look at my stock exhaust when I get home, and compare it to the Magnaflow. I bought my truck in December, so I probably have the dreaded "s" curve from the newer trucks. If my muffler shop can fix it for a reasonable price, I'll go for it.
But here's the deal - if you have a muffler shop alter your Magnaflow system (which they could do very easily), then you void that Magnaflow lifetime warranty. I decided to send my 15834 back and wait for the one designed for my truck. What's another month? To keep that warranty intact, it's worth it for me.
I also going to wait. Why take it to a mufler shop and pay more money? It's not a big deal, but the mufer shop will more than likely use a steel pipe instead of a stainless one. I would call the place you purchased it from and make them send you a call tag to send the unit back. If the you told the place that you bought it from that you have an 05 and they sold it to you, they are responsable for the part not fitting. Magnaflow has not released a part number for the 05 yet. Another option would be to call Magnaflow, from the mufler back it will be the same kit. They may let you send them the pipe that you don't need and replace it with the correct one. Good luck, let us know how it works out.

Well, I called Magnaflow and they told me I need to return it back to where I bought it. That sucks, because when I ordered the part, I ordered by part number. I had looked at the magnaflow website and troyer, and they listed the 15821 as the application for the newer 04 f-150's. I never thought that ford would change the exhaust from the 04's to the 05's, so I guess its my fault. If I return it to Performance peddler, than I get charged a 30% restocking fee, and I have to pay the shipping. Thats over $150. The warranty... I don't know. I had a flowmaster for 3 years on my Tahoe and never had a problem. I don't even know if it had a warranty. If something would have gone wrong with it I probably would have bought another system. So it seems you guys are pretty up on the warranty, but I don't know how important it is to me right now. Any ideas on a ballpark figure a muffler shop would charge to modify the pipes and install my exhaust? Thanks for the help guys, I don't feel to great right now...
Just a little information for some...
As most of you know, I was one of the first to purchase the Magnaflow SIDO 15834 exhaust. When it was first made, there was no provision on the date of which truck the exhaust would fit. When I got my exhaust and mocked it up, you are right, it doesn't fit. So, me and my brother looked at it for a few, had a beer
, and I thought it wasn't going to fit. The instructions weren't as clear as I would have liked them to have been. So, what we did was place the first manaflow pipe in the hanger it is supposed to go in, measured how long the headpipe had to be to fit correctly, and cut away. The reason that Magnaflow says the exhaust will not fit is because of the cutting needed to get it to fit. I just though I would clear this up. It will fit, but about 8" needs to be cut off the stock headpipe. Once I did this, the exhaust lined up and fit perfectly. The difference between the two seems to not be at the muffler, but different headpipes off of the Y-pipe. My truck was built in July of 2004, and the exhaust fit, with just a quick cut of the headpipe. I see it as no big deal, as you can get a stock headpipe right from Ford should you ever want to take the Magnaflow off (I know I never will!) So, I thought this was just some info that people would like to know. I was confused at why my exhaust fit, and others did not, and why I had to cut my headpipe. I know there are some people that will not do this, but for me it was not a big deal, as the Magnaflow still has a warranty, and my truck sounds awesome now. So yeah, technically, it don't fit, but can VERY easily be made to fit with one quick cut. Hope this information helps some people that may not want to wait for the '05 fitment, or that just wanted to know this information. Hope I could help!

Thanks for the info!
I thought of this also, but after I had already packed up my 15834 to send back!
So in your install...I assume the magnaflow hanger right behind the muffler (the one actually connected to the drivers tail section) goes in the factory hanger where the rear of the stock muffler was hanging? Is that right?
So the rear of the stock and magnaflow mufflers are in roughly the same spot, with the added magnaflow intermediate pipe making up for the longer stock muffler (minus that 8")?
This made sense to me after the fact, but initially I was trying to put the front of the magnaflow muffler up near the front of the stocker and nothing seemed to fit right.
Hopefully my '05 version will be here soon!

jdmclemore, in my install, the magnaflow hanger right behind the muffler DOES go into the factory hanger. The rear of my Magnaflow muffler is in roughly the same position as the rear of the stock exhaust.
What I did was first put the magnaflow pipe onto the intermediate pipe. The hanger before the muffler was way off, so what we did was take off the intermediate pipe, hang the maganflow pipe right before the muffler, and then we mocked up how much of the stock intermediate pipe we were going to need. Once we cut it, everything lined up, and all the hangers were used by the Magnaflow system.
Even with your new 2005 system, the rears of the two mufflers will be pretty even, it won't be the fronts that line up. I couldn't believe how big the stock exhaust was.
Anyway, I know you will be happy with you exhaust, not too loud, but you know its got a V8, and sounds really nice when you get on it. Make sure you post pics and let us know how the install goes. Thanks!
