04 and 05 the same?
Anyone know if 04 and 05 are the same when it comes to exhaust systems?
I see Banks makes a system for my truck in 04 but it doesn't say if it will fit 05.
thanks

No!
I assumed my '05 F150 5.4L Supercrew would be the same as an '04 (the body is the same - why make a change to the exhaust??).
But I called Ford and the part numbers are different. The pipe coming out of the stock muffler is different. It bends a little sooner. I'm waiting on Magnaflow to fit for the '05s - hopefully that should happen sometime in January.

Well if the pipe coming out of the stock muffler is a little different it want matter. I have the magnaflow on the way to me now for my 05 and a friend just installed one on his 05 with no problems.

NO the exhaust is not the same from 04-05. I found this out the hard way. I'm not having very much luck with exhausts.
I've already bought 2, sold 1, trying to sell the 2nd & now I'm waiting for Magnaflow (from what I can tell, most of the people on this message board recommend them) to make a kit for my truck. So far I've pretty much thrown away about $400. I'm not happy to say the least.
I know the Banks setup will fit the 05 because I had it on my truck. The reason the Banks fits is because it attaches at the Y pipe instead of the intermediate pipe. I thought the Banks setup was too loud so I sold it. The differences between the stock 04 & 05: pretty much everything after the Y pipe...
Why Ford did this is some mystery to me. Kinda makes a former Chevy owner scratch his head and ask why?
I ordered a Gibson to replace the Banks that I just sold and the a$$wipes at Gibson gave me the part number to order, so I ordered the kit from an internet vendor. When I get it, nothing and I do mean nothing fit the way it should. The intermediate pipe was to long if you leave the Ford intermediate pipe in place or too short if you take the Ford pipe out. The front hanger is different and the tail pipe is no where near the right shape or length. The over axle bend was about 4 inches too far forward and the section that would go into the outlet of the muffler is about 4 inches too long. I discovered all this TODAY 30 Dec so I know its all true. A call to AJUSA revealed that Banks is the only company that is interchangable between the 04 & 05 pretty much every other company makes a kit that is year specific.
At any rate a brand new never been used Gibson exhaust for 04 144"wb is now in the classified. Owning my Chevy was never this hard, good thing I like this truck...

I had a 04 that I put a catback on so in the morning I will crawl under my 05 to see if it is different. I know for a fact that my friend has the magnaflow on his 05 and it fit perfectly. I actually helped him line up the tips. So maybe what we are seeing is some did not get changed right away probably getting old parts gone before switching over.

Let me know what you see.
I called Troyer today and they said they don't have anything to fit the 05 yet. I'm wondering how it is some people have an exhaust that works and I cant get one? Somewhere, somehow, something isn't working on my vehicle. That's all I know...
What part number did your friend get? I'm looking for single exit to the stock location. I'd really prefer a bolt on cat-back system. My only other option would be the local muffler shop which only carries Flowmaster.
Thanks

What if you cut the intermediate pipe somewhere and started from there?

Okay I just looked at my 05 and it looks slightly different than my 04 did. What I see different is the 05 has a bend in the pipe right before the muffler. The 04 did not have this. So the intermediate pipe going into the muffler has been moveed slightly by Ford on the 05's. I also went over and looked at my friends 05 that he took off and guess what, it was the same as my old 04. Leave it to ford to mess us up on this, well some of us anyways.
P.S. someone here that has a 04 with stock muffler will take a picture of Y-Pipe and the intermediate were it goes into muffler I will do the same on my 05. This way we will have pictures to back up findings.

I probably could cut the stock Ford pipe and make everything work... But then it wouldn't be a "bolt on" system. I'm pretty freaking pissed off at Gibson. For a company that pats itself on the back over its customer service, I'm sure not getting any answers. They gave me the wrong info and now I'm going to be stuck with a restocking fee & shipping if I return it. That's why I'm trying to sell it. If the 04 & 05 aren't the same, why couldn't they tell me that in the first place? I would have had no problem waiting for the correct system to enter the market.
Okay the gibson catback were does it bolt up on the truck. I mean were does it start at? Can you scan and post the install instructions so I can see what it shows and compare to what I am seeing? This may help to see what the heck Ford has done differently and why.....

If you look at the "Y" pipe coming off the cats, my truck has a slip fitting right after where the two pipes come together to form the "Y". There is a 29"intermidiate pipe with a clamp tacked onto the outlet end going back to the muffler. The muffler has a 12" "S" bend going forward to the intermediate pipe. The muffler itself is 32" long and looks like its about as big as the exhaust section on the Gen Electric CF-6 turbofans on the KC-10's I fly on. From the "S" bend back, everything to the exhaust tip is all one piece. I would scan the instruction from Gibson, but the pictures are barely readable so I don't think they will do much good to explain all this. The "S" bend on the front of the muffler seems to serve no other purpose other than to irritate aftermarket exhaust companies. From the people I've spoken to, the 04's have no "S" bend on the front of the muffler and therefore an aftermarket kit will have to have a different intermediate pipe or the angle will be off. That seems to be my problem.
The Gibson system bolts on at the end of the 29" pipe. I don't know how long this pipe is on a 04.

Yep thats the only difference I see also is that s-bend as you call it going into the muffler. Seems ford did this to move the intermediate pipe closer to the frame for some reason. But I know for sure not all 05's have this because my buddies was straight into the muffler. All that will be needed to be done is for the aftermarket guys to make a intermediate pipe with a slight bend.

If it is just a small bend, not knowing how much, I haven't changes mine yet. What if you got the exhaust shop to massage your Gibson pipe a little to make it work. Just another thought, if you want exhaust now and already have one.
Bet you wish you didn't get rid of that banks system .

I guess I could have had a muffler shop modify the MF intermediate pipe, but that would void the lifetime warranty. Troyer (Anita) apologized and issued a call tag to ship it back to them. I'll wait until MF "officially" releases a system for my truck. I'm hoping that's soon!
I'll try to get some pics of my stock exhaust in my gallery soon.
