04 and 05 the same?
Here are a couple pics of my '05 stock exhaust which is different from the '04:
The infamous "bend" coming out of the front of the stock muffler.
Looking from the Y-pipe back.
Here's what the '04 (and *some* '05) exhausts look like. Notice the relatively straight intermediate pipe. **Special thanks to Gordon Merrill for this pic!**

As I look at the pics, I see a difference, but depending on the muffler used will it really matter that much?
I was looking at some other posts and came across this pic that Fatherford has in his gallery. It is a magnaflow system and it looks awfully close to the s type bend that you have. He does have only a shortbed reg cab.
hope the link works, if not do a seach for him and check out his gallery.

I agree after looking a little more closely. It will work and I will give you guys the low down for sure this weekend coming. As my magnaflow system I ordered will be installed on my 05 at that time.

Another difference that I just noticed is that the '04 stock muffler has that long intermediate pipe that's part of the muffler. On the '05 there is just that 12" S-bend and then a clamp to a separate intermediate pipe.
When I unpacked the MF 15834 system and tried to line it up, I was confused on whether to use this Ford intermediate pipe or not.

I put the Banks system on this evening (thanks to KC-10' wife I got a great deal) Install was easy once it was up on the lift and we figured out that you need to loosen the clamp at the cat because Ford keyed the intermediate pipe and the muffler inlet, thay won't come apart unless you twist the pipe so it lines up.
The truck seems to run smoother at cruising rpm and there is some resonance in the cab but it isn't all that bad, mine turns about 2100 rpm at 80 on the highway.
All was great until about 25 miles later and 2 miles from my house, that damn deer decided to turn and go the same direction I steered, apparently the exhaust should be louder so they know I am coming. This is number 4 in my 23 years of driving and none of the prior 3 did any damage to anything, but my first new truck and 1200 miles later, things take a turn for the worse.
Truck faired much better than the deer did. Will take a bumper cover, the plastic behind the bumper, one of those half-assed bumper grill pieces and maybe a bumper. It may have tweaked it down some on the drivers side.
Oh well guess the insurance companies coyotes (sp) didn't do there job. (if you are in PA and a hunter you know what this means)
Exhaust is great though and would reccommend it to anyone who is looking to swap theres on an 04 or 05. My only complaint is the Banks company uses the old ubolt clamps yet, So get yourself 2 3" and 1- 2 1/2" stainless band clamps, even Ford uses these now. So if any of the aftermarket connections see this, just put these in the kit from the start and add another 10 or 12 dollars to the kit.

Glad I could help... We all know that if we don't keep the significant other happy, you will most likely end up unhappy yourself.
I always said deer & birds (at least the kind that like to hang around airports) are stupid. How is it that birds can't notice a 500000lb airplane with 3 engines making all kinds of noise and multiple light blinking and then fly right into the engine or windshield? It happens all the time... Deer are even worse... It's like they wait until the last second as if they are timing the jump to land right on your bumper.
Sorry to hear about your truck, at least you have an exhaust you like...

Good news!! This is from Anita at Troyer:
"I just got off the phone with Magnaflow and the fitment for the 2005 truck is complete. The part is on it's way to production and they expect a February release. I will keep you posted as I get more information."
This is for the 2005 version of the MF 15834 (SIDO catback, rear exit).

Update to my ongoing saga with exhausts...
I FINALLY installed the Gibson Single Inlet/Single Outlet today. SHTRDAVE was right, all I needed to do was remove 6 inches of pipe somewhere. Since I didn't want to ruin the stock Ford pipe, I cut the excess off the front of the Gibson tail pipe where it goes into the muffler. All it took was a little motivation with my Craftsman Sawzall. My tip of the day... Don't try to cut 3" stainless steel tubing with a $0.50 saw blade. It was taking forever and then the blade broke. I put in the $4 craftsman heavy duty metal cutting blade and it went thru the same tube like butter.
If anyone is looking for an exhaust that gives you the power with out all the noise, I would definitely recommend this one. I can honestly say, it is ever so slightly LOUDER than stock and it sounds BETTER than stock. My onboard computer indicated almost 2MPG increase and I can feel a significant difference when I pass or floor it. I called Gibson today and they said they would have the 05 kits ready by the middle of Feb. If you have an 04, all the aftermarket vendors should have them in stock.
This exhaust is exactly what I was looking for. It gives me some extra power and increased my gas mileage. Its not obnoxiously loud, etc... Since this truck is our primary vehicle, I was more concerned with the increase in mileage than the power increase.
I can take a photo of the 05 stock exhaust to compare to the 04 photo already in this thread. How do I post it? Or better yet, can I email it to one of you guys that already knows how?

Just installed the 15834 Magnaflow exhaust on my 05 KR.
No, it wasn't a straight bolt on.
I had to modify, make, the intermediate pipe.
Had to change the tail pipe hanges to reach the pipes, they are too high on the frame rails.
Other then that everything went on perfectly and sounds great.
