Key reminder - dinger

Does anybody know how to remove the key cylinder in the steering column?

In my F350, you stuck a small screwdriver or center punch through the little hole in the trim piece that covers the underside of the column and whilst pulling on the cilinder it will pop right out. You then covered the shiny piece of "aluminum foil" with electrical tape and stuck the cylinder back in and you are forever rid of that anoying and irritating dinger that will not quit except for closing the door!!

I made a few attempts yesterday but could not get the cylinder out and I do not know if they changed the design or not.

Thanks
Frank

Why not just program it not to ding?

On my 02 screw...you just pushed the seat belt button and it went off.

Look in the owners manual. If you cant find it or figure it out let me know and i'll tell ya how to. It shows how to do it all in the manual. There are some steps to go through to unprogram it. Should be pretty simple to do.

I think you guys have this dinger confused with the seatbelt reminder. The alarm I am talking about is the one that will go off as soon as you open the door and the keys is in the ignition.

To my knowledge the only way to quiet it, is by removing the key from the ignition switch or to close the door.

I did this mod and it works.

The instructions below are heavily plagiarized (that means somebody else wrote them)

Pull off the lower shroud around the steering column (one screw) and remove the lower dash panel in order to pull the lower shroud out. The shroud is not easy to pull loose because it actually has a flange that sticks into the steering wheel. Find the wire coming off of the ignition switch that is hot when the key is inserted,( just in but not turned). There are seven wires. This wire is one of three small wires, third one up from the bottom. it is brown(dark) with a stripe, but take a multi meter and check.
Remove and inlsulate the wire, with shrink tube so that you can reconnect if needed. You can now lock the keys in the truck.
