well, I bit the bullet today and took my truck to the muffler shop. I had them install a single in/ single out Flowmaster 4 series muffler today exiting out of a 18" Black stainless/chrome 3.5" opening tip.
Sounds pretty good. It could be a little louder without hurting my feelings, but its loud enough. Cost me $200. The tip was $60 by itself. But it will outlast the regular stainless tips and wont speckle up with rust as fast.

Anyways.. I really like it. As far as performance... if there is any increase/decrease.... its not noticable.

Hopefully I will gain a MPG or two.. then it will pay for itself .... yeah right...

P.S. I took the stock muffler and sat it on a bathroom scale.... 34 lbs... its HUGE!..

 

If its a Flowmaster 40 series, don't worry it will get louder with age. Mine did.

 

Is that some kind of joke about getting to be old and thinking things are too loud.. or will it seriously get louder? I dont see how its possible to get louder.

 

as you break it in it will get deeper and LOUDER

 

Its no joke, mine actually got LOUDER. For reals.

 

I noticed after a few hundred miles my Maganaflow muffler got a little louder.
