The problems start with my remote start

Hey all. I have a 04 Supercab Lariet.. Had it about 3 weeks now. This past Monday, I brought the truck into my local Ford dealer to have the remote starter installed. Today is tuesday and they still are not finished! They claim the got everything put together yesterday but now anytime you try to unlock the truck the alarm goes off... so they are ordered replacement parts.... still no tuck... maybe Wednesday or Thursday... I am sooooo pissed... I miss my truck!!!!

Does anyone else have a ford remote start - and did they have similar experiences?

Sounds to me like your ford dealer hasnt installed many. I would bet on them having the wiring wrong. If it was my truck, I would remove the drivers side kick panel as soon as I got it back from them and count how many extra wires are taped up from them trying the wrong ones out

Re: The problems start with my remote start

I put the Gold on my 2003 F150 Supercrew after I got it, the dealer had few bugs to get worked out, but the installer was sharp and they called the maker on it to get it working.
Bug 1 they had the Pos or Neg wrong on the hookup
Bug 2 the wires on daig were marked wrong for the colored wires to be hookup too
Bug 3 the antenna had to replaced (had to stand next to the truck to start it)
Note: with the gold you set the alarm off when you touch the key pad
They say a Ford dealer needs too install the Ford remotes system, but good installer is the key for a good install.
I really like my remote and lucked out with my dealer on the install.

If the gold system is hooked up properly the alarm will not activate when you push the keypad. You can use the keypad or the remote to unlock and diable the alarm. Use the key to open the door and the alarm will sound.

I have the Ford Remote Start and installed it myself and have had zero problems with it. I bet your dealer outsources their electrical work to a 3rd party and whoever it is doesn't know what the hell he is doing.

MichaelF150,

How did the install go on yours? I have installed remote starters in the past.... So I am thinking I could tackel this one too.

Where did you get the Ford Gold from, what'd you pay too?

Install was no serious problem...Sandog helped me with recommendations on location for the computer under the dash...the wiring was a breeze except for me looking in the wrong bundle for the brake wire for about 60 minutes. On my second pass I'd have it done in an hour. It is mostly just unwrapping electrical tape from existing bundles and re-taping when you're done...there aren't that many wires to splice and plenty of room under there to work relative to working on a sedan or coupe.

Only major tip is after removing the bottom half of the steering column cover, I would recommend doing what Sandog suggested I do which is cut off the tabs that are designed to go into the back of the steering wheel. I spent a good 20 minutes trying to get those mothers back in and it just wasn't going to happen without fully removing the steering wheel...just not worth it. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

I paid whatever retail is at the dealership...I forget...didn't really look for a deal though.
