OIL Change
there is no such thing as special factory "break in " oil. i like to change the oil on a new truck at 1,500 miles. Everybody has an opinion on this though and probably most of them are equally valid. 1,500 change on a new truck, and 3,000 mile changes thereafter is just my approach.
6000 miles seems like a pretty long time for that first change. My dealer had me bring mine back at about 2000 miles because that first batch of oil is actually cleaning that brand new motor, while it breaks in.
After the initial change, then I started following the manual. About every 3-4000 miles.
I would change the oil sooner the first time, then go to the recommended intervals.

Yes, Change sooner. There's an abundance of filings floating that need to be purged. As soon as I hit 1500 miles it's off for My free oil change.
I'll do 5000 there after as it's easy to remember. I know most other's do 3-K to 4-K.

Take your pick between 1500 and 3000 and DO IT.. Don't wait 'til
6000 on a new motor ( even if the stealership says so ) Most
stealerships give wrong advice. ( do a search on vibrations and steering wheel nibbles and you'll see what i mean ) And a lot can't even hire a tech qualified enough to properly do a correct oil change for ya. You might want to do it yourself if you can.

Break-in oil!!! That's a classic... right up there with muffler bearings!!
Anywho, I changed my first @ 1500, then at 5, 10... 15. You get the idea.
Oh, and switch to Mobil-1 SuperSyn on that first change...

I heard that synthetic oil contians caustic agents that cause your engine to wear faster, its all a conspiracy between the oil companies and the auto makers. They keep the mpg low and the oil manufacturers make bad syn that rots your engine. More product sold for both!
(NOTE: It is a joke people)

Break-in Oil
Years ago I was told you changed your oil after only several hundred miles of the engine "breaking in". Then recently told that with the better machining of engines these days that "break-in oil" is a thing of the past. Still, rather safe than sorry I still do my first oil change at or before 2000 miles. Even if you don't do it yourself, for the cost involved it seems worth it for the peace of mind.
I had never heard there was danger switching between synthetic and back before this forum, so now I'm really kind of weighing my choices, since it seems to be a 'lifetime' (at least for the vehicle) decision....
