Overhead Console Wiring Harness

I pulled down the standard overhead console and notices a 2x3 hole in the head liner. Inside this opening was a wiring harness connector, it appears to be a 6-8 pin connector.

Does anyone know what this connector is for, I didn't order the DVD prep package but the truck is a 2005 FX4 SuperCrew.

While we are on the subject....how did you take the console down? I want to modify one of the over head bins to hold a monitor and need to be able to run the wires down and would like to use the hold under the console....IF I CAN GET TO IT!

By pulling down the console, I just ment removing the large storage module. This is down by pushing up on the module and then pulling down on the handles on either side of the module.

I suspect that you may want to remove the hole console which I have not done.

I did the same thing just the other day. Was wondering what the wires were for. I didn't order the dvd prep package either. If someone has any answers I would sure appreciate it.

2004s are not pre-wired.

2005s can be. But you have to order it or get a truck with it.

This is from the ford web site.

DVD Electrical Prep Package $30.00

Allows Aftermarket Installation of Rear Seat Entertainment System

After using the search feature I found the following:

rambunctious

the harness found on 05's when removing the bin is an aux power harness. it has 12V always, 12V accessory switched, and ground. it is there for future bins like motorola 2 way radios with charging kit, and other future products that need power. It is not a harness to the audio system unfortunatley.

We ( supplier of RailPort system and DVD) have been discussing with ford for quite some time a harness for the accessories catalog. Ford just can't get off their bums to release the part number. We are discussing with them the option for us to offer it aftermarket. When this happens I will let everyone know on the board !!

There are a few companies ( like the link) that are making bootleg harnesses.

hope this helps.

I thought the same, but you can get the DVD installed even if you didn't order the $30 harness. Maybe that extra was for the rear (headrest) DVD, but all I know is that I got the Factory DVD installed on mine.
