tire and wheel combo

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum. Just bought my 05 black reg cab stx 4x2 with the 4.6L last week. Was wondering what size tires I could fit on it. I did a search but most people go with the leveling kits when they go bigger on the tires I see. I will probably go with a leveling kit eventually but what's the biggest tires I could fit without it? I'd like to go with some 17x9 or 18x9 rims too. I'd like the tires to stick 1-1.5" out the sides to give it a nice stance. Can I get away with 33s with no rubbing issues or do I need to go smaller? Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks
Travis

First off if you have the money for tires then why dont y ou just go ahead and get the $100 autospring? Anyways, I think "Scott 7065" has an unlifted 2wd truck and with 285/55/20's (32.5"). I dont know about any rubbing issues or the kind of backspacing he has.

I just wanted to see what it would look like without messing with the suspension. I frequently tow a boat and I'm not crazy about the *** end sagging when it's hooked to the truck with the leveling kit. Thanks for the quick reply man.

I think you might have a little rub but I think it'd be a disappointment if you didn't go with 33s now. Depending on how many miles you put on your tires. However since you tow a boat, I'd opt for the Daystar kit and the add-a-leaf in the rear.

What's the difference between the daystar and autosprings? I've done a lot of searching and everyone with the daystar seems to say it's the best and the same goes for everybody with the autosprings. And where can I get the add-a-leafs? Will they keep the back higher than the front? I like a little rake. Thanks for the help.

The difference is really in the install. The Daystar is harder to do but I like the design better, with the Daystar my truck sits .5" higher in the rear. If you want to go Autospring, just get the 2.5". I believe www.4wheelparts.com has the add-a-leafs.

Another option is putting airbag spring helpers instead of add-a-leaf. Just thought Id bring it up since I'm considering it myself. I like the leveled look but dont want it to sag with the boat either, with the airbags I could adjust it to whatever height I need. Or another route since you have 2wd would be placing the 2" blocks in the back from a stock 4x4.

Thanks for the help guys. Would I get those blocks from Ford or what? I'll look into the add-a-leafs too. Probably go with which ever is cheaper.

I think you can get the blocks from a ford parts department. There is a thread someone on the forum that talks about it and I think gives a part number. The price is around $20 for each block plus you have to get new u-bolts. I think it would end up around $50. You might want to check around on the this forum and "ford enthusiast". Most suspension lifts raplce the block with a bigger one and there might be someone willing to sell the ones they took off for a little profit. Ill see if I can find that post.....
