burrs in chrome bumper

I couldn't believe it! Waxing my truck for the first time, I was wiping off the front bumper and the rag snagged on it! I ran my hand across it and found a lot of burrs under or in the chrome. I took it to the dealer, he ordered me a new bumper. When they went to put it on they told me it was worse than the one on my truck. Supposedly they check some in their yard and they had the same problem. ( I checked some and they were fine).
Has anyone else had this problem? You really can't see it unless you get real close, but you can certainly feel it.

Thumbs down

I have the same problem with my truck. I haven't had it to the dealer yet. Waiting to get a few more miles on it to see what else turns up.

Wonder if it was a bad batch. Mine (10-03 build date) is smooth as you would expect.

Got the burrs too. I already use an old towel when drying the bumper. I will bring it up at my 5k service. Let us know how the dealer handles this.

Exclamation

I don't think that it is a bad batch. Mine was built 5/04.

I think that it is more of a cost thing. Manufacturers beat up on suppliers to the point that quality goes down.

I was actually going to live with mine having burrs until I saw this post. It really is something that you shouldn't have on a 30k plus truck.

Dealer ordered me another bumper, should be in soon, this time I'll have him check it before I drop off the truck. mine was built 6/04. I had another 04 that was fine ( totaled it).

You think you guys have problems, try this one. Two months after I bought my truck I noticed tiny rust marks on the rear bumper!

I emailed Ford, and their response was we are sorry for your problem, but go to your dealer and have them deal with it!

Since this is the only issue i've had, and there is still lots of warranty left, I'll just keep an eye on it for now. If it gets worse, in the shop it goes for a new bumper. Actually, will do that anyway, just biding my time to see if anything else comes up.

Burrs on the bottom edges of bumpers are common =-I've noticed this on many older vehicles. This is something that's standard.

The burrs referred to here are on the face of the bumper, when you run a rag across it , the strings snagged by it look like bugs.

Latest update: I called the ford customer line. They hooked up with the dealer, the dealer said they would take one off a truck in the lot for me.
When I went back, the service manager told me he would watch the lot for one that was good( sure he will!). I had already walked the lot, found only 1 better than mine( out of a bout 20), just one small burr, so they put that one on for me. He more or less told me I was being picky ( just not in those words). I can see that a lot of people are going to have this problem, whether they notice it or not is another thing.
