MPG 04 Screw 4x4

HI Guys,
I got 14.3 mpg on my 3rd tank of fuel with my 04 Screw 4x4.
This is combination of highway and city but mostly highway. I have been reading some posts that some people are getting 16, 17 and even 18 mpg with these trucks.WOW! HOW? I am not calling anyone a liar but I would kill for 16 mpg. HOw do you do it.

5.4 with 3.73 limited slip. tonneau cover and bug shield.

Your MPG will get better as the engine breaks in more. I've got just under 10K on mine and I'm getting about 16 to 17 in the city, and low 20's on the highway. When new it got 13 to 14 around town and 17 to 20 on the highway. Be patient the mileage will improve.

TBIRD,
Do you have the 5.4 liter 4x4? That is excellent mileage! I can only dream of that for a 4x4.

Yes I have the 5.4 4x4. Like I said be patient your mileage will get better. If you check your window sticker Ford rates these trucks at 17 city and 24 highway. I'm very close to that.

I have a 4x2 and a 4x4. The 4x2 has about 1k miles and I am getting 15.5-16mpg so far.

My 4x4 is getting 14-15mpg so far with about 300 miles so far. I hope both will get better.

Most of my miles are all in town as well. I jsut got an air intake and tuner for my 4x4 and I am doing exhaust in the next week or so. It will be interesting to see what exactly my mileage does after this, as well as comparing it to the 4x2.

Let me be clear on something, my mpg is in 4x2 only. Winter with 4 high on pretty much always, mileage does suffer. 14-15 around town isn't unheard of.

Tbird, are you using US gallons or Imperial Gallons in your mileage figures? I believe the US gallon window sticker mileage range is 14-18 mpg. You're speaking of breaking into the low 20's mpg on the highway...that's something most of these trucks won't see without mods (again using US gallons as the reference).

Sorry Tbird, I gotta call BS with your calculations... 4x2 or not, your claiming that your are SURPASSING the already bloated EPA ratings!!! The window stickers on the new trucks in US gallons is 14/18 or 15/19.

BS? Probably not...I think that we just have members who live outside the US, where they use different standard units of measure..and we should try to be more clear on which units are being used when posting statistics.

1 Imperial gallon = 1.2009 U.S. Gallons

14 to 18 miles/US gallon is equivalent to
16.8 to 21.6 miles/Imperial gallon

The Canadian government tests have a high of 24 for highway. To me its all BS in the way they test, which is not real world driving.

My mileage is crap. But what do you expect out of a 4x4 with upgraded V8? If I wanted better mileage I would have bought a diesel Jetta.

Don't they know the US is always right?! The world revolves around us, duh!

Your right, it prolly is a communication blunder. But, until he clarifies it, I'm assuming US gallons & BS!!!

Canadians refer to US gallons. This is included on our window stickers as a point of reference for those old guys that cant figure out metric fuel economy (which is fuel volume over distance vs MPG which is distance over fuel volume)

I too believe its not true. Whne do people actually have the same efficiency as a government test?

Not only that, when to people surpass those numbers?!!! Even the EPA admits a vast majority of folks cannot get their posted mpg estimates!
