Ford should have put a 5 speed auto in these trucks. Would have made a significant difference in power. Especially the drop off in power after the 1-2 shift. That is the main advantage I see in the Titan. The Titan motor is also detuned if its only putting out 305 hp. A DOHC multi-valve 5.6 liter should easily be able to hit 400 hp and 350 without a sweat. To bad the truck is uglier than an Aztec.......... o.k maybe not that ugly.

Plus the Titans 5-speed had 3.36 gearing, which on a 4 speed auto is equivalent to 4.10's! To cover for out F150's extra weight and less power, I wonder if a 4.30 gear would help us beat a Titan in accelreration... Not that I race or anything of course.

All of this "Ford is slow stuff" is due to several factors other than poor engine performance. The engine is good but we have a disadvantage in every category. Personally, the 5.4L is a better performing engine IMO for the power it has. It pulls much harder in the upper RPM band than both the competition. However, here is why.

1. Weight (an extended cab 4x2 Titan weighs 5,019lbs. My Reg Cab Short Bed F-150 4x2 weighs around 4925lbs completely empty.)

2. 4 speed vs. their 5-speed. (need I say more)

3. De-tuned engine. No doubt we are the most de-tuned of the bunch. I believe we are the only model where it recommends 87 octane. The HEMI recommends 89 and Titan I believe is 93.

4. Oh, and after having more weight, less gearing and very modest tuning we have less HP and TQ then botht eh Titan and HEMI. So, I say we are kicking @$$.

Now, if you had a R/C S/B 4x2 with 5.4L and 3.73 like mine, it narrows the competition oh so much. Trust me.

True... I wonder if Ford plans on upping the power in later models?

I sure wanted the Nissan to be a good truck. So far, I have read the Nissan boards for the better part of a year now and I am very disappointed in build quality. Guess if you get a good one, then they might be OK. I sure would not even consider a used one at this stage of development.

As far as the new F-150, I think Ford got it mostly right out of the box. Why they have re-curring vibration issues is a mystery - maybe those General tires are even worse than the Firestones. In my opinion, Generals are junk - the Firestones were usually long-lasting, if rough tires. Anyway - tires make a difference and Ford seems to be cheaping out again. Guess with GM picking up all the old Firestone discards and putting them on their new trucks for almost nothing - Ford has to compete.

If you go Nissan, please be aware that the axles and/or brakes should have been designed beefier. There is no long-term fix for this. Just like the first years of the Toyota Tundra. If you go Ford, please drive it first and be sure the one you want is put together good enough not to vibrate on the highway. And/or request better tires which I think is mostly the problem.

Good luck. I for one prefer buying a one year-old product that I can get a service/owner history and that runs out on the highway smooth as silk at 90 mph. That plus a 40% discount to new even with the new vehicle discounts. They are around, but not usually easy to find with just the right equipment.

In my opinion, new trucks have just simply gotten too expensive.

I have nothing against Nissan's or foreign cars. I know all cars and trucks have problems regardless of the maufacturer. However, after reading over that board over a period of 3-4 months it appeared to me that the Titan has more problems than average.

For those who say the Titan is ugly... I have to disagree! I am in love with this thing! (Still like my truck best though).

F Series celebrated its 50th anniversary in 98 MY. That would make it 56 going on 57 years old.

But that's just the F Series. Henry started with trucks by slapping a flatbed on the model T (even if it was powered by a Dodge engine) not to mention the thousands of different truck bodies slapped on a Model A. So Henry has been making trucks for a hundred years.

That's a lot of heritage.

I think Nissan has been making trucks for 50 odd years as well, but only a couple of years as a full size. I would expect a huge learning curve for them. The day they get their act in order (and tone down the love it or hate it styling) it will be a formidable competitor that Ford, GM and Dodge will lose more market share too.

blah blah titan blah, blah blah ford blah......

Bottom line, this is a 2004-2005 F150 board, does anyone think we give a "s" about the Titan? After 7000 miles I love my truck as much as the first 100, and I am more than happy with it.

who cares about the titan or the dodge or the chevy, theyve all got good points and bad. If you like them so much go find some forums of like minded people.

looks are subjective, its an opinion, who ever compares a titan to an aztec is stupid, i have had many ford f150 owners give me a thumbs up or point or stare at my truck, along with many many other truck owners, it gets a lot of attention and complements, i personally think the titan looks a lot better then the f150, but both are very nice looking trucks

about the resale value, ford f150s dont have better resale value then the titan

also it is stupid to come onto an F150 site and ask which truck is a better buy, of corse almost everyone will say F150, same thing if you went on titan talk, dodge truck forums, or any where else, if your not sure which to pick, get a couple magazines, look on a couple internet comparisons, read what they all have to say, then go out and test drive each one yourself, no one knows which truck will be better for YOU, you have to go out and find out for yourself
