Last Build Date for '04 ?

In trying to make a final buying decision, I went by my local dealer today only to find 2 new '04 Screws just arrived. Only 4 miles showing on each and a build date of 8/20/04 listed at the bottom of the window sticker. At least I was told that indicated the build date. If that is correct:

1) Does anyone know what is the last possible build date on '04's? I would think 8/20 is getting close to the cutoff.

2) Would this truck be any closer to an '05 in terms of updates or corrected problem issues found in earlier 04's?

3) Would the later build date influence your buying decision either way?

Thank in advance.

build date is listed on the inside drivers door. Mine was built in july and it is showing none of the issues alot of others have complained about. The truck is not sluggish like many of the trucks i had tested prior to buying. I would think its a positive thing that the build date is recent. For no other reason, you havent had some yahoo test driving it or some punk porter. Also, it hasnt been sitting on a lot somewhere collecting god knows what like some of the other older trucks.

My build date was 9-03 Kansas City plant. I have no issues at all; everything is perfect.

Rockman,

1) I know that KC truck plant just already started productions on the '05s...per a post from Screwbuilder earlier this week. I think that they started on Monday (9/13). I read that '05 production at Dearborn is scheduled to begin 9/20/04. Most likely, the last of the '04 F150s have been produced and are working their way to the dealers now.

2) The plants always make changes, usually minor, throughout production during the model year, but I wouldn't expect anything noticeably different between a truck arriving at a dealer now vs. a month or two ago.

3) Mine was built in 10/03 at KC and I took delivery at the end of October. I've driven 15,000 without any issues worth complaining about. If you are worried about the vibration and/or howl problems that have been documented in this forum, find a truck you like and take it for a good test drive and put it through the paces on highway and backroads. If there is a serious problem, it will likely be noticeable then. The good new is that, thanks to this forum, you know what problems to watch out for...but don't let the knowledge make you paranoid. Most of these trucks are just fine.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Are there any differences between a KC truck and a Dearborn truck?

I think KC trucks are better, but then again I am a little biased.
We have been building trucks in KC for many many years. Dearborn has all the latest equipement and technologies. Dearborn is still running behind in production from what is expected of them, but I would think quality is very even.

Don't anybody take this personally, but I'm happy I have a Kansas City Truck......................
I remember that DELICIOUS KC STEAK I had last year, in KC!

I've spent some time in DETROIT, VERY depressing to me...
as I said, I don't mean to offend anyone here!
