7 QUARTS of OIL?
I brought my 4.6 into the Ford Dealer for another service, the 6 K.
I mentioned to the Technician that last time he added an extra quart according to the manual. The manual says that it takes 6 Quarts when changing the filter as well. the first time he added 7 Quarts. He said that the 4.6 takes 7 quarts. Has anyone else had this situation or even checked where the level comes to on the dipstick?

he probably looked at the dipstick and thought it needed more.
get that extra quart out NOW. when oil is overfilled, it foams and ruins the entire 7 quarts.
its bettere to be a quart down than 1 too many.
makes you wonder what else he is doing to bugger-up your truck.

I'd like to get some expert opinions on this thread because it does concern me.
Yes, the manual does give the capacity of the 4.6L as 6 qts and the 5.4L as 7 qts. And I agree that overfilling the crankcase will cause the oil to foam. However, the manual also says to add oil when the dipstick shows to.
I had my first oil change done at a local shop we always use. After I got home, I checked the oil, and it said add oil. I took it back and they put in a qt, the dipstick then showed full. Untill I saw this thread, I thought they put in 5 qts by mistake, now I'm not so sure.
I have seen a lot of comments on this forum about how similar the 4.6L and 5.4L block and crankcase is. Could Ford have done a mis-print on the oil capacity? Or is it possible that some of us got the wrong dipstick?
I won't be able to verify anything untill November. I'm in Iraq, and they didn't let me bring my F-150.

I feel that if a problem develops its on them... GG

this is true. but how do you know when the dipstick is accurate? Its only a guide. Directional purposes only.
Some full serv gas stations still pull the low oil scam where they dont put the dipstick in all the way and then show you how much you are down (when in fact you are not)
Go with the manual. Ford says 6. All of your oil change receipts will say 6. This is in writing that you followed the manual. If this is wrong, Ford buys you a new engine.
There may be some kind of crank case pressure change by having 7Qts it seems that now with the 7 qts the engine Idles smoother than with the 6... Perhaps the added pressure has a pushing effect on the pistons returning to the top of the chamber... I'd try the 7 if you haven't just to see if you notice any change in the Idling. Also ask your dealer about this issue... GG
