Maybe 9qts would work with the extra large filter, try it and let us know

if you use the filter RECOMMENDED in the manual, its 6 quarts. Use of any other filter is not advised.

If any tech suggests using something in different size, get that ***** in writing.

I can't beleive I am still reading this. How hard can it be. Cars and oil have been together for......well a long time. It's not new and if someone can't figure it out on their own, maybe they should be walking....IMHO.

For those that took my post personally.... take a minute to re-read my original post, I know what the manual says. I have been changing my own oil as well. If your trying to show everyone how witty you are great. If you have had the same experience then post it. Reposting what the Manual says over and over is useless
I'm not trying to challenge the Manual. I wish one of the guys that works for Ford in the engine tech dept would chime in... GG

yes I read the post and I know you read the manual, but some of the posters apparently have not as they feel 7 is fine.

one of my earlier posts asks the question "what else is he doing to bugger up your truck"

My belief is that recommendations are made for a reason. Some engineer spent a lot of time firguiring out crankcase capacity. Its a shame for some oil change jockey to decide on his/her own that he/she knows more than the engineer that developed the engine.

I understand what your saying... However I did call another dealership service department and ask to talk to a service tech about this issue and he said after referring to manuals that 7 was recommended for the 4.6, I mentioned the foaming issue and he repeated the 7 figure... at that time I posted this forum to see if anyone else had the same experience that's basically what happened to this point... hey I'm not telling anybody this is correct I came here to try and get the matter straight for myself... not to sway anyone one way or the other.. Hmm.....somehow I have a hard time believing that Ford added a bypass filtration setup on the new 4.6L. I currently run one on my diesel, but Ford for some reason doesn't believe in the system. Just to throw this out, my old 4.6L held between 6-7 quarts typically. 7 was a little overfull and 6 wasn't quite full. I never rely on the owners manual for things like that, they're more of a guideline. For those who use them as a bible to their truck I feel sorry for you. The proper way to do this is to run the truck up to operating temp, drain the oil, drop the filter, install new filter, then fill up the operating level on the dipstick, then start the engine to let the oil circulate through the filter then top off to about 3/4 of the way up the operating level on the dipstick. Just go by the operators manual as an idea of how much oil it should take, but always check the level on the dipstick to verfiy that the oil level is correct instead of assuming that Ford has really done their homework.
