Post Sluggish Acceleration

I know this subject has been beat to death here but today while at Ford for other reasons I asked about the hesitation that I feel when I stomp on the Gas once in a While. While riding at 40 or 50 mph I lay down on the Gas and it seems to just Squat for 3 or 4 seconds! Anyhow Ford told me that I have the latest software available for my Truck? The managers told me that this is just the design of the truck and thats it,thats not the end of the world but it would be nice to be able to (scat) when I need to from time to time especially for 35K and 300 HP
So is that all I can do or is there something anyone could suggest.

By the way this is my only beef with this Great Truck,Just no Punch!

Well, fortunately I ordered the lightest most powerful version of this truck with a 3.73LS diff. I have plenty of power man. Hanging with HEMI's and Titans.

Your situation is different. Your truck is very heavy man and with 3.55's it is even worse.

Check this out. Upgrade to a 3.73 gear ratio, purchase the new Superchips tuner(in a month or so when available), get an exhaust and intake and it will wake up.

Check this site out.

www.troyerperformance.com

Also, you prolly do have the latest software. The three biggest and only reasons this truck feels sluggish is:

1. We have a VERY DE-TUNED engine. Ford was WAYYYY conservative on the tuning. For good purposes (engine life, fuel economy). Hence the fact that both the HEMI and Titan require higher octane gas and shift at higher points than we do....while we have to use 87 octane and we shift 500RPM before actual redline.

2. Our tranny gears are lower than the others. First gear in the Ford is a 2.84:1 while the HEMI and Titan both have a 3.3*:1 first gear ratio. This kills our acceleration. They are running approx. 12% more power with their tranny gearing. Thats with my 3.73 and it's even more compared to your 3.55.

3. We are HEAVVVVVYYY !!!! Liek 600lbs heavier in the most loaded version available. I weigh 4925lbs in the lightest version available and a loaded Titan extended cab weighs 5019lbs. Only 94lbs difference in a much more equipped and longer truck. A comparable F-150 to the loaded Titan is 500lbs more on the F-150.

But, our engines are capable of adding much more power with tuning, and other mods. The other two are much more limited.

Sorry for the long post but I have two friends...one with a Titan and one with a HEMI. We do non-stop comparisons. It's all in good fun. Healthy competition.

I know this subject is beaten to death but you got to keep trying.

Saving for a future tuner like the 1714 due out sometime the end of the month or in August from Superchips is a good option. My 2004 F-150 is fairly heavy. Its an XL with 163" WB. Weight on the registration says about 5400# dry weight. I believe its a bit higher. And as you, it was a bit of a dog in the acceleration dept. Not anymore!
With the Troyer Stage I package tow/perf on 91 octane and the added exhaust and intake along with the stock 4.10 gears it fairly leaps across an intersection from a stop. But on the highway it also runs hard an fast at just about any speed. So hang in there and the only thing yo have to worry about is how much money you want to spend on getting you on down the highway.

Also as hellbound 150 says, the shift points on the stock truck is way below the power curve. Mine now shifts at around 5200 to 5400 rpm, before it could only make it to about 4800. And the throttle is instant.

Too bad Ford can't see it that way and provide us with that kind of service.

Cool

Thanks a Bunch Guys those are some very useful and cool suggestions.I guess to see the bright side of things our trucks should technically last longer? Plus no matter what there cool Trucks. I describe mine to be Almost like a Lincoln inside a truck body!

Titan's and F-150's accually weigh about the same hellbound. What kills these trucks stock is the 4sp auto and conservative tuning.

If that weight is correct then the Titan somewhat lighter than my truck, which is described in my sig, my title says it weighs 5287lbs. That is with the shortest (133'') wheelbase available. I agree that if we had a 5 speed auto we would have a lot better performance.

I am considering buying a new 2004 SuperCrew. The three issues I want to understand completely (if posible) before I buy:

Throttle Response
Vibration
Air Conditioner

I was reading the throttle issue on another site: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=242469

Based on what I read, If I buy a new truck, I want them to reflash the PCM to the latest software code. I don't care if there is a problem or not. I just want the latest code.

Regarding the Air Conditioner and Vibration. I guess I'll just do a very long test drive and see if they seem like an issue.

That is for the 4x2 version. The 4x4 Titan weighs around 5200lbs. You can bet for sure even the most loaded Titan weighs far less than any comparable F-150.
