Angry Beware of AirRaid and MAF

Anyone running the AirRaid kit I would recommend checking your MAF bolts to make sure they are tight. I ran with mine on for 4000 miles with great results - 1.5 mpg better, much better throttle response until my whole farging MAF was hanging loose with the bolts sitting in the channels of the intake runners!! I know I torqued them down properly. I have no idea how long it was loose, but even after I noticed it I started the truck real quick to see if it would throw me a code and nothing??? Uh oh massive lean condition here I come. I put the stock intake back on and took it to the dealer to see if any damage occured and everything checked out ok. Only time will tell. How could it have not thrown a code or put it into safe mode?

Anyway I can attest to the performance gains from the kit. It is painful to drive it now with the stock intake on, but better to be safe than sorry.

loctite

I don't think loctite is the answer. I thought of this during the install but, if you look closely at the AirRaid setup the tube is pastic and the bolts tighten down into the tube through pressed in metal fittings. I don't think you will ever be able to get the MAF off if you use loctite. The pressed in fittings will just turn in the plastic without loosening.

Also, the install instructions told me to place the supplied washers between the MAF and the tube. They said this was critical. I guess it did not help in my case.

What a bummer, I had an airaid on my 01. Before I sold the truck I took it off and gave it to a buddy. Man, what a difference. I was really looking foward to putting one on the new truck. What is the second choice?

use the blue loctite. It takes a rather long time for a lean to harm anything. thousands or cars come in with major vacuum leaks with lean codes with no damage. the pcm will correct for a lean and set codes before any problems are made.
