Cool A little exhaust help please

Okay, I have been doing some shopping around the net and really want to try out the Cat-Forward Headers made by JBA. It looks like gains around 10-25hp and 10-25ft-lbs torque for the headers alone. Check this link to hear how our new 5.4L 3V sounds:

http://www.jbaheaders.com/Sounds.asp

I would also like to go with the Borla Cat-Back dual exhaust that seems to be a popular choice on this forum. Is there any reason I should be worried about mixing and matching exhaust components? Also, how is the sound with the Borla at idle and highway cruising (I don't want any droning)?

Any advise would help a ton. Thanks.

I have the Borla split rear exhaust and I think you will like it. At idle and cruise there is no drone, but on acceleration it sounds great, throaty but not obnoxious to the neighbors. It does turn some heads, I guess people arent expecting a new F150 to sound like that. Coupled with the headers I dont know how much that will change if at all.

Thanks Grayflare,

I like the idea of a quieter cruise/idle and throaty acceleration. Have you noticed the performance change (I have tried to go through all of the old treads and fatigue set in)? How about any mileage benefit?

Thanks again.

How's the truck treating you--gas mileage any better (I've read your posts)?

I have noticed a performance increase, it is not a major jump, but it is there. As for the mileage it will go down to begin with because you will tip the throttle a lot so you can listen to it. Once that is over it will improve slightly. The best Ive gotten so far is 18mpg on the highway and 13.5 - 14mpg around town.

You won't have any problems mixing those two products. You'll still have the factory y-pipe and cats between the two.

I must say that the truck in that sound clip sounds like it revs up much faster than my 5.4L 3V.

Thanks for all the responses. Now all that is left to decide is whether or not I 1.) like the sound of the Borla muffler and 2.) can save the coin to buy it.

I know the headers are an added $550 to the cat-back price, but I really would like to free up as much hp (and cool sound) from the motor as possible.

Just add that to my planned mods:
- PCM flash whenever the handheld tuner is released
- some sort of intake (not a clear leader in this area yet)
- Donahoe Racing 0-3" adjustable suspension
- 18x10 Weld Cheyenne 6
- Nitto Terra Grappler LT325/60R18
- Line-X

Just dreams that I hope will someday turn into reality.
