Right - that's the 97 through 04 heritage model, not the new 2004 f150

The old body has a horrendous reputation for crash tests. The New body style scored the highest possible rating with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

First of all. It's obvious that that arcticle is biased.

Second of all it doesn't have much merit. I honestly don't think that the arcticle and pictures are accurate. If it is true then the guy in the F-150 would be in bad shape (probably dead), but the guy in the Mini would have died from seatbelt to chest force alone.

*NOTE: A 40MPH impact into a NMB (Non Moveable Barrier) is equivelant to a vehicle traveling at 80MPH hitting a stationary vehicle.

I personally seen hundreds of PN96 (97-04) and P221 (04) F150 crash tests into a NMB and none of them looked like that one after the crash.

I think it's BS and I'm not just defending my company. I will say that the safety of Ford vehicles in "general" is far exceeded by BMW. In fact I would say that in "general" that BMW have the safest vehicles. I will also say that crash tests are not totally accurate to what happens in the real world. I would still rather get into an accident in my F-150 than any BMW.

since the new f150 does perfect in the offest test, and gets 5 star rating on the government test, can u consider it one of the safest vehicles on the road? Itll prolly do well in side impact, as the 97-03 scored 5 stars in side impact.
