2004 FX4 Clicking.....

I just bought my 04 screw last week, and about two days ago I noticed this clicking sound coming from the truck when I am driving....I cant even describe it....but when it happens, it cycles..for example..it happens normally when Im accelerating about roughly every 8 or 10 seconds. Then the next time I drive it, its not there. It makes no sense, but I was just wondering if anyone experienced this too.

Oh my gosh, finally someone with the same question that I have.
At first I believed that it might have been the transmision switching gears. Then I realized it wasn't when it would happen even if I was cruising at a constant speed of 35 miles per hour. Checked the fluid and it was fine. Anyone else have this problem? One of my buddies said that it might just be the belt making the tick noise. Not sure what it is yet though.

I think most of the guys here came to the aggreance that the ticking we hear from our trucks is being caused by the fuel injectors. However, you shouldn't be able to hear it above idle in park, if you rev the engine any (above 1000) you shouldn't hear it. But if you guys are hearing a "ticking" sound at 35MPH, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND A QUICK VISIT TO YOUR DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMEN!!!

magical clicking!

Got in the truck this morning....no clicking.....but just because I wrote this...it will start clicking again. Im almost positive that it is either a tranny problem or something with the 4x4. Too bad the dealers arent open on sunday...bastards.

Pete,

Keep us all posted on whatever you find out further about the clicking noise.

I get it also, I think it is the AC or some other electronic system. For me it sounds like it is cycling???

I can hear my A/C clutch cycling on when I have the windows down. It sounds like a click and happens 2-3 times a minute depending on the A/C settings.

Keep in mind that your A/C compressor clutch will cycle not only if the A/C is on, but also if the defrost is on. Your A/C system also removes moisture from the air it discharges. This prevents your windshield from fogging up w/ the defrost on.

well, im stating the obvious, but the noise I was hearing was the AC, but I just don't see how that is normal...I wonder if the dealer can do anything about it?

Mine is in the shop as I'm writing this for among other things a loud clicking (usually in the morning when the truck is warming up). Sounds like some sort of solenoid switch that is clicking way too loud... We'll see what they can find out....

I have a tapping noise coming from my truck too. Don't really know what it might be but I was told it might be one of the valves of the engine.

I know this is an old thread but has anyone found a solution to this problem? I have been chasing this issue for months.

It could be the hydraulic lifters, like on mine for example it sounds like a diesel when it idles. kinda like a ticking or knocking. I took it into ford they said thats what it is and its nothing to worry about.
