Gas Prices and Our Trucks

Is the price of gas causing you to cancel that sunday drive, or waiting until you have a bigger list of things to do before you venture out?

The Price of gas in my town is .99cents a liter and is gunna go up and up very soon.

I figure if the price of gas gets to the 2 and 3 dollar a liter mark, which it will eventually, maybe in 12 months, I will have to admit defeat and sell or trader er in.

Only thing is, will i even be able to sell a truck with a 3$/liter price tag tacked on. In three years our trucks will fetch more than a comparable 3 year old heritage model just because they will just start appearing on used car lots and buysell magazines and being the new style, people will ****** them up... hopefully. But with a high gas price, were all gunna be forced to have an econo box gas/diesel/propane/electric/solar hybrid car.

Just my thoughts, what do ye all think? Please no stund "one liners" or flamers please.

$2.30 a gallon here in California. My wife, who drives the 04, has changed her habits a bit. She is trying to cut down on the number of trips into town by combining the trips for her part time job with errands. I recently joined a van pool to save my 60 mile a day round trip, I now drive only 6 miles a day to the pick up location, so I have cut my Diesel bill by a bunch, eliminated a $64 a month parking fee (University employee) and reduced my insurance by about $72 a year..

Even if gas does reach $3.00 a gallon, which I bet it will in the near future, I doubt we will get rid of the 04 for a couple of years. I still need a cab big enough for me (I'm 6'4") and accomidating enough for the wife (5'0") , along with whatever children we have (we are foster parents). I also need something that can tow, so that rules out most hybrids for the forseeable future. What I do see is getting rid of the 97 F-250 and getting something more fuel efficient. I am really hoping that Ford or GM will see a demand for a 4 cyl Diesel in a Ranger/Colorado, or a V-6 Diesel in a F150/Siverado. A Diesel Electric hybrid would be a nice choice also. If Ford or GM could market a 1/2 ton truck with a V-6 Diesel, I would probably jump on it right now.

I noticed in an article I read that the new Hybrid Chevy 1500 acheives a 10 to 12 percent increase in MPG. Based on the additioinal cost of the Hybrid I think it might take a while to recover the difference with only a 10 to 12 percent increase in MPG.

I for one think the gas prices will peak this summer and then start coming down and land at around 15 to 20 cents more per gallon than the price was when all this increase started. Historically, this is what happens.

The University of Saskatchewan, has released it's intentions of making a Diesel/Hydrogen conversion kit for under 6000 $ CDN. It will suposedly be able to run off diesel or hydrogen/diesel combo, they say they are working on a gas version now.

You'd get all the power you need with this one......

Now all you have to do if find some hydrogen.

We're almost at $2 a gallon here in the Wash DC area. Chances are I'll start car-pooling and limiting my trips.

.85 cents a litre here in Mississauga, Ont. This is crazy. I filled up last night I had over a 1/4 tank left in my S/C and it cost $70.00.

Thats okay I still love my truck and would never give it up for anything!

Well I hope it doesnt come down to having to part with the truck. I do love this truck more than any other I have owned. Gas prices here are at $1.75 a gallon and rising. Have cut down on pleasure driving, cause Im not single and only have a decent job.

Money: hard to come by, gone before I see it.

Not to be a smartass but was gas milage a consideration when you purchased the truck? I knew going in that 12 miles per gallon was going to be an increase in my monthly gas bill - so maybe for me it's not as big an issue. I do live in San Diego and 2.25 per gallon is an additional expense to living in America's finest city.

I knew what i was getting into when i bought my F-150.
Actually, this truck gets about the same mileage as my previous 01 F-150 4.2 Scab did.
No matter what happens with gas prices, you will see me behind the wheel of my F-150.
I refuse to drive the wifes 02 Accord, (she works about a mile from our house) not only is it the ultimate "chick car", but when the family loads up to go somewhere in it, feels like my a$$ is draggin on the ground.

I was a bit worried about gas prices. I even looked at a Toyota Tundra. But the mileage was no better and it had quite a bit less power. I am obviously very happy I made the decision I did. Actually the milage is not all that much worse than in my Ranger with the 4.0
