Thumbs up The EASIEST & CHEAPEST way to buy the '04 F150

CARSDIRECT.COM

First off, this is not an advertisement, this is just me stoked on how easy and inexpensive of deal I got from carsdirect.com. I wanted to share this with all of my fellow members who are in fear of the negotiation process of a truck purchase.

Five weeks ago I configured my FX4 on carsdirect.com and was blown away at the fact that they list the selling price at $100 BELOW invoice. Skeptical at first, I read through the forums and found a little good feedback, but not all that much. Anyway, I decided to go for it. I submitted my request and was contacted the next day by one of its sales reps. He gave me a run down of how it all works and began to search for my truck in CA, NV and AZ... to no evail (weird combo of options). So he ordered it.

Five weeks later it arrived; 1-3 weeks before the estimated order time frame. It was delivered to the closest particapating Ford dealer in carsdirect's network of dealers. For me, this was 30 miles away from my home in San Jose, CA. The paperwork was and truck was ready and waiting. No haggling over ESP, fiancing, ETC. as it was all as I chose it to be 5 weeks before on their website. 2 hours later, the truck was mine.

Now I have access to the x-plan through my employer, but I opted against it for a couple of reasons. Firstly, xplan cannot be used in combo with my college grad and AQHA rebates (By the way join AQHA! The best $30 investment you could ever make! YEEEE HAAAA). And secondly, the original selling price of $100 below beats xplan by $300! Now "invoice" includes the FDAF fee no matter where you buy your truck.... it will vary depending on where you live. But that is the "true invoice", unlike kbb.com which excludes it. For those that got it waived... you did enough talking to have the dealer take it out of 3% holdback or somewhere else depending on the transaction.

So here's the final figures:
MSRP: $35,070
Invoice: $31,156
Carsdirect: $31,056
My price AFTER rebates: $28,656!!!!!!

Hopes this helps you all. Please reply with any questions!

That is a good deal. My XLT 4X4 was $28,300 with the Xplan and a 1K rebate.

Out the door for $27,419

I did show up an hour before they closed, maybe they were tired!

All you should have to do is

(1) select a make and model where it says "NEW get a Price",
(2)then punch in your zip,
(3)then select your specific style(FX4, Lariat, ETC) by pressing the "see our prices" button
(4)then select your sepcific options
(5)Then check your price at the top, if you like it...
(6) go to the top of the page and clicck the continue button where it says "save with carsdirect".

Hope that helps.

AGHA - I think I vaguely remember from another post that that stands for the American Quarter Horse Assoc. Is that right? What kind of rebates are available - can you see what they are before joining? I want to replace my '01 Screw with an '04 and so far haven't seen a single rebate that applied. Also, you're implying that "X" plan is now higher than invoice? Has something changed because when I bought my Screw the "X" plan price was about 1.7% off invoice, plus any rebates applied. I loved it for the same reason you're talking about. Walked in to the local dealer, gave him my X-plan pin # and walked out 45 minutes later with a no hassle, no B.S. purchase. Just trying to get reaquainted with the various deals that are out there. Thanks.

Maine-s'crew -

The AQHA rebate is applicable to the Screw, membership is only $30 but the catch is that you have to wait 30 days after joining before you become eilgible for the rebate. But remember that it canNOT be used in combo with the xplan. And about xplan, I compared multiple truck's with various options between xplan and invoice and most seemed to be around $100-200 over invoice. Although I did notice that the more options you choose, the closer xplan gets to invoice.

MattInNashville -

I'm not sure if your doing it properly... You can configure your truck exactly to your likes on carsdirect's website. Every option Ford offers is loaded as an option on their website. If carsdirect can't find your truck within a few hundred mile radius of you, they will order it and have it delivered to the nearest dealer they are partners with. Just submit your order and talk to one of their reps... its super easy.

If anyone is in the Central Texas area, I would highly recommend checking out Covert Ford. I bought a brand new STX there yesterday. Their deal is simple...find a truck you like and subtract $5,500.00 off the MSRP. Turned out to be a great deal on the STX, though I'm sure it loses some luster as you get into the higher dollar models. FWIW.

How come people post on here how much they paid for their truck but they don't tell us what it is? 22k for a Screw. Is that a 4x2 or a 4x4? XL, XLT, STX or what? $21.799 for an XLT? Is that a regular cab, supercab, Screw? 4x4 or 4x2? Giving just a price doesn't tell us much, if anything.

Here's my deal.
2004 regular cab FX4
$31670 MSRP
$26824 Z plan
-$1000 rebate
-$500 from Ford
-$1000 retiree voucher

=$24324

..

One of my local dealers is advertising $1000 below invoice and you keep the rebate ($1000 on SCREW). I am leaning in that direction. I've been in all the '04 full size trucks out there, and it looks like I'll get another Ford (dark grey FX4 SCREW 4x4 loaded to the hilt).
