Lost Truck

My ordered Lariat SCrew 4x4 was built on 12/9 and "shipped" 12/10 according to the info I've received here and the paperwork my dealer showed me. But I still don't have the truck. There are allegedly 600 trucks sitting outside the back door of the KC plant due to a lack of rail capacity.

So, I'm getting pissed 'cause I gotta have the purchase on my business books by 12/31 so I can get the deduction for last year. They have to get the transaction done very soon or Ford Credit won't let them date the paperwork 12/31.

I have 2 choices:

Sign paperwork for truck now. I get to make payments for a truck I don't have. Cool, eh? I have also put a call into my insurance agent to find out what happens if Ford damages the truck en route. I guess it is mine and it comes out of my pocket. Not a good idea.

Or I can buy a truck from inventory. They don't have the color I want. And the trucks they do have, have extra options I didn't care to pay for which is why I ordered a truck in the first place. I think I can play hardball and get them to meet me on price, but I'm not sure.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Additionally, can someone please advise: Is it impossible to get a Lariat with interior trim other than Tan? After reading all the posts here about keeping the tan clean, I'd like to get the grey. But I don't think such a beast exists.

Thanks!

Jeff

Lariats are available only in Black & tan 'leather'.

Your post is dated 01/06/04...the references to 12/31/03 tax consequences seem moot.

They have the paperwork ready for me to sign and it is dated 12/31. I have already "bought" the truck on my books at my office. All that is really left is getting the papers signed and giving me a truck. What my accountant doesn't know isn't going to hurt him.

Not true. Check again, you CAN get the Lariat with black leather. I saw one, and almost bought it, but decided to dealer trade for a black on black FX4.

Jeffss: I signed all my paperwork 12/31/03 for the "business" and am still waiting for the truck. It was supposed to be here today, no word yet... I feel for you!!

Personally, I'd go for one in inventory, and get all the options you can get. I never would have ordered a truck with heated seats, took one out of inventory thinking sheesh, what a waste, those heated seats....but I'll tell you now I am really, really happy with the heated seats.

Same thing on about a half-dozen other things that my former self would have called dumb gewgaws, but I've learned to love them all.

i'm going in this morning to probably do just that. I've run the numbers and I think I can get it for probably another 1000. Hopefully bananas are coming soon!

make the dealer suck up the difference in cost. for your inconvenience, of course... its worth a shot, and it probably will work too.
