Talking new to forums, and a new FX4

hi all,

new to the forums here but wow, there is tons of stuff. i bought a FX4 last week and i love it. i have never owned a "new" vehicle before, its my first. i have had lots of trucks though and can honestly say i am a ford man. before my new baby, i had a 97 F150 4x4 and it was great. (even drove it through a house once - long story

i havent experienced the shudder i see people talking about but i do have that irritating hesitation of acceleration if i "mash the snot" out of the gas pedal. once it hits though - whooosh. i have only got about 200 miles on it so far so am still breaking it in. does this hesitation go away after 1k?

we have lots of ice here now, and i havent had ot put it in 4x4 yet. my 3.73 rear end just creeps up hills of ice that my buddies have to use 4x4 on. hehe. so far, i love this truck. but i did my homework before i bought it. (yes chevy is nice - but after having two and getting nickle and dimed to death, i'll pass. dodge-had one, never again! nissan, well i choose to support local working guys like me. ford - 101k on my old one and not a single dime for repairs.

when i bought my new FX4 i got a new ford deal. Tires for Life. is anyone else getting this with thiers? i havent received the paperwork on the program yet though, its suppposed to show up any day now. the salesman told me it was a new deal from ford?

any one heard of this?

anyways, great looking board and from what i read, lots of really knoledgable ford guys!

later

Tires for life???

I just picked up my XLT on Saturday and there was no mention of this. Please post details when you get them. Was this offer from Ford or the dealer?

this has to be a dealer program.

I would be hesitant on this. Tires for life means cheap fleet tires worht $29 a piece for life. I am sure these are not Revo's for life or anything like that.

I understand; but also free means FREE!

And if they're givin', I'm takin'.

Hell, even if I just use 'em as boat bumpers on the camp that's fine with me.

Very smart choice........just picked up my 04 150 Supercrew XLT 4x4 loaded and I also have not had any problems, no noises, no shudders either, i have the 3.55 rearend , I don't know if that makes the difference, but as far as the acceleration delay, to me it is not bad once she's rolling it screws...I also noticed it does not seem as bad when its really cold (10 degrees today)but this could be my imagination, but if this is the only small problem..... I am thrilled, Ford still looks and feels much better than any other truck out there, in my opinion. Every Dodge, Toyota etc driver had had his tongue hanging out when I drove by.......

Congrats on your new truck, man! You're gonna love it. I also have an FX4 with about 6700 miles on it and feels much more powerful than it did when I bought it. So don't worry.

Post some pictures when you get a chance! I love checkin' everybody's trucks out.

Click on the link below to see mine!

Good luck with your new truck!

thanks and a bit of tire info

thanks everybody.

Wolf - i am in Kansas, fairly close to the Claycomo Mo plant where the F150 is done.

i called the dealer after i posted and got some info. the info hasnt reached the dealer yet but "its on its way"

i have the 18" wheels and the p275/65rx188 OWL all terrain tires. i was told that as long as i do my scheduled maintenance within 500 miles of being due i get the exact tire replacement. this covers any number of tires any time as long as it is attributable to wear and tear. (not road hazzards). jsut being a smart @$% i asked what would happen if i went out in the parking lot and smoked em bald, and the dealership owner's son told me that well....."the treat would be gone, due to road use. you would get new ones."

this is a new deal from ford. it isnt actually supposed to happen yet (starts the 10th i think) but he also told me that it will be offered on all new ford vehicles. they have even given it to some guys who already bought thier trucks and went back asking about it.

on a humorous side note, my buddy just called, i guess after riding in my truck a few times he went to the dealership last night with his wife's x plan and bought a FX4 level 2 ranger with the big V6 and 31" tires. supposedly its a "baby" version of my truck, same dark shadow grey clearcoat and all. LOL

on tires - why are some tires listed like "BFG 31 inch" and others like p275/65r? how do the numbers translate? (always before i just ask at the tire shop - give me the biggest tires that will fit these wheels and climb trees. hehe)

thanks
cclouse

So, basically, you have to pay for their (dealer) service for the first 60k miles (projected life of AT/S) in order to get the free tires? IMHO, you are overpaying for the service and maintenance more than the free tires are worth.

Check out Tirerack's sizing Info page for how tire sizes are calculated. 31" tire = 31" in diameter. Your 275/65R18 = 32" diameter. Sticking with the stock rims, 285/65R18 is the only size I know of right now that will work for a stock suspension.

Tires for Life is what my Dealer gave to me upon purchase. It is dependant on my having them, the dealer, do the scheduled service every 5 thousand miles. I clarified my tire choice as I did not want cheapo's. They confirmed that they would replace the OEM's with the same choice of OEM's. I have 18" BFG's so they gave me a certificate naming the three brand and size choices. They use a tread gauge to determine replacement. Not a bad deal for me as I drive many, many miles between Ohio and SC. Usually 40-55 thousand a year. I bought with X-Plan too.

Was this a Ford deal or something the dealer did?

Also, when did you purchase the truck?
