Towing Capacity

Anyone know how much the towing capacity decreases with 18" tires, as opposed to having 17" tires?

I'm ordering a Lariat, with the towing package (525) and 3.73 limited slip axle, but from all the info I can find, it comes with 18" tires, standard, and doesn't show an option for 17".

It's suppose to be 9500 lbs w/ 17"....

Can anyone answer this question for us? Also, do you think someone will come out with 4.10 gears for the '04 F150 FX4?

Thanks,

Frank T. Lee

Some of you probally already know this but, just picked up the new brochure and found the answer. On page 41 under the maximum towing capabilities chart is shows that the Lariat and FX4 w/18" wheels reduce the GCWR and max trailer weight by 500 lbs.

The 4.10's are available, but only in the heavy duty payload package , which is only available on regular cabs and super cabs w/ 8' bed. Hopefully someone will offer aftermarket gears though.

It will proabably be over 8000 pounds. Does it realyl matter? If one plans to regularly tow over 5000 pounds, the benefits of a Superduty will become readily apparent.

I'm not sure if Ford will use those rearends on the 04 or not. My 2000 w/ 5.4l uses a 9.75" rear. I'll try to take a look at it tomorrow over in OKC.

From what the new brochure says for a supercab 4x4 with the 5.4 and 3.73 rear the max trailer weight would be about 8800lb. Not bad at all for a 1/2 ton. If you haul over 5000 lb almost everyday it probally would be better to have a SD.

The H D payload pkg trucks ought to be a great machine for towing.
