Why so many rotors, which do I need?

So I was told I needed new brakes and rotors (for the front) of my 2002 Ford F150 XLT Triton and I was going to do it myself. However, when looking up parts, every auto parts store seems to list multiple different rotors for the truck. I'm not sure why. Were there that many configurations for these years or something? Am I able to tell by the vin? Looking at the Vin decoder it's an F-Series F150 4X2 Pickup-Regular Cab Styleside Truck, 5.4 EFI-SOHC V-8 Gasoline Ford 235-260, Hydraulic Class E: 6,001-7,000 pounds. Does that tell me or do I need to need other info?

The parts stores sell different rotors from different manufacturers. There's more than one which will fit your vehicle. Buy Motorcraft brand and you will be getting the right ones for your vehicle.

Sorry I mean I know the differences between manufacturers but some seem to have the rotors with hub assembly (14mm or 12mm bolts) and the others are just rotors with no hub assembly. How do I know which I need?

If you go to a website like autozone, you can enter the vin number and it will select the right parts that fit your vehicle.

That's what I'm saying, it doesn't. For example, autozone has options for 7 lug rotors for my vehicle, but my vehicle has 5. Rock auto shows me options for 5, 7, and 8 lugs. Oreilly shows me 5, 7, and 8 lugs. Even when I narrow it down to 5 lugs, I get ones with the wheel rotor and hub assembly (with 14mm lugs attached to the rotor) and another type without any lugs 12mm holes. I replaced my rotors on my Infiniti and it was one rotor option only at Autozone. Are the front and back rotors different perhaps, one with lugs and one without? Does the towing capacity change how many lugs the wheels have maybe?

Here are some pictures.

Okay so I think maybe I get it now. I guess the 2 wheel rear drive has different rotors than the 4x4 model of the same year. It also has different rotors for the front and the back I think. I'm still not sure why there are 7 and 8 lug rotors for the same truck yet but since I only have 5 I'm not going to worry about that. Geez what a pain.

The 7 lug rotors are for the heavy duty half ton. You can check your lug size but it's probably 14mm. The 4wd trucks have rotors that are separate from the bearing hub but the 2wd front rotors include the bearing hub I think. I know my 2002 5.4L 4wd has separate rotors and bearing hubs on the front. I don't buy cheap rotors. I did for the rear of my truck one time and they warped in a thousand miles.

You need 5 lug rotors for a RWD, there are differences depending on 12mm or 14mm studs and 4 wheel ABS or rear wheel only. Rear rotors are definitely different.

7 lug wheels were used on the 7700 GVW package, 8 lugs are for F250's.

I think you're right. Since I have a RWD, I believe the front rotors include the hub assembly and the rear do not. From what I understand the front are 14mm and the rear are 12mm.. not entirely sure on the rear but I only need the front's currently. I think I need wheel bearings and seals as well which aren't included. Much more complicated than my car but I think I've finally figured it out.

Your truck would not have different size lug nuts on the front and rear.
