Front brakes dragging more as I drive
Front brakes dragging more as I drive
Truck: 2000 F150 XLT 4x4 5 speed
Ok so after digging around for a few hours I have come up empty handed on this problem..
What keeps happening is when I first take off, the brakes work fine for about 5 minutes. The more I use my brakes, the more they drag. When it first started happening I noticed the brake line for the front brakes was bent and slightly kinked at the master cylinder. I had it replaced, bled and all and it drove fine for a few days. But a few days ago it came back.
I figure it's both brakes dragging because there is no pull one direction. Have contemplated adjusting the booster pushrod back, but would rather have a second opinion before possibly damaging other things.
The abs light is on but it has been on since I got it in 2012, no issues at all.
Any advice at all is helpful, thanks for reading!

Check the temperatures of all the brake rotors. The way the front end geometry is, you can't feel it pulling to one side. So, don't assume that one side is dragging. Replacing all of the flexible brake lines is a good idea. They do tend to fail by the inside collapsing and causing the caliper pistons not to retract when the brake pedal is released. It could also be sticking caliper pistons or even the master cylinder.
A pull to either side!
Certainly it can happen.
Caliper stuck..
Hub bearing pack worn on 4wd .
Brake control system and feed problems on ABS .
Worn pads on one side for whatever reason.
Wheel out of alignment.
Bent suspension.
Tire pressure difference.
Stock non grease able type lower Ball Joint replacement with wheels not straight ahead. (A Rubber memory issue)
.
Check the signs for heat difference, wheel dust more on a wheel that others, tire wear, pulling etc.
Good luck.

When I bought my new 2000F150XLT Scab 4x4 on a Saturday in May and drove it to Michigan on Monday a tire lost air and slowly went almost flat on the left front. I never felt it pulling to the left side. I was on the Indiana tollway when I heard a humming that got louder. So, I pulled off at the next gas stop and saw that the tire was almost flat and it was very hot and blistered. Never felt a thing. So, the front end has to be designed to keep you from wrecking when a tire goes down. Remember those Volkswagen commercials showing a Rabbit running over nails that punctured the front tire and it still stopped straight.
I had this problem on my 2000 Dakota last summer. It was just as glc predicted. Replacing them and bleeding the brakes made it feel like I had new brakes.
