Long story shot. I have a 01 xlt 5.4. I had a front wheel barring going out and decided to replace it my self. Took me about 20 mins to do. Axle nut wasn't even finger tight. I put the 36mm on to make sure it was the right size and unscrewed it by hand. After putting the new hub on I started torquing down the 3 bolts on the back and rounded 1 of them . Its "on there", maybe 45-50lbs. So I would like to get new bolts and cant find anything online. I was hoping for a part number or a link to get a set. I have tried the googler and many forums and cant find ****.

 

Pull one of the bolts and take it over to a hardware store and match it up.

 

That's kind of a last resort for me since this is my only means of transportation.

 

Be sure you get an automotive cap bolt not a common grade 5 or 8.
Another source is a yard that has the trucks with 4wd.

if I remember correctly, that big nut is 35mm not 36mm. Autozone guy sold me a 36 socket and it will work but 35mm is the correct size (going on memory).

 

I need the 3, 15mm bolts on the back. Not the axle nut.

 

Have you called a Ford dealer to try to get a part number yet?

 

Of course not. Lol. I did try the online Ford parts store. I couldn't even find wheel barrings to see the blow up of the diagram for part numbers. I will call them tomorrow (if there open). Since I couldn't find this info easyly on line I figured I would start a post do other people looking for the same part will be able to come here.

 

Yes, I understood that but you mentioned that the 36mm socket was the correct size for the axle nut and i found it to be 35mm on my 02 4x4. That nut has to be torqued to 221 ft. lbs. as I remember.

 

Did you ever figure out where to buy new wheel hub bolts?

Dealer wanted 50 some bucks for pack of 4 and would have to order.

You can also find and order the right part online, or you can read further and find another fix that your local parts place probably has in the back.

I picked up Dorman part number 917-517, with the help of quick internet search that I didn't take the time to look into further. Got home and found it's not the right part so I kept researching and looking. The bolt is slightly different. Slightly wider at the top, under the cap and the length is somewhere around a half inch too long. After spending all my time looking for a new bolt, I needed to get the job done, so I just used one of them (came in pack of 3 for something like $33) to replace my missing one and just cut it after installing. The clearance between it and the back of the wheel lugs was too close for my comfort with it uncut (eyeballing, maybe 2mm).



I was missing one of these bolts and driving around... LOCKTIGHT.
