Expedition Overhead Console Install, Part II

Part I of the project was getting the console installed ... https://www.f150online.com/forums/19...9-reg-cab.html

Part II was getting everything wired ...

The switches are both SPDT (on-off-on), with two independent lights. The green lights are wired to the dash lights with the red lights wired to the switch output.

The driving lights come on only with the high beams in one switch position or on with the parking lights in the other. The rear lights come on in reverse or on with parking lights, depending on switch position.

I needed a place for my mirror switch, so I built a face plate for the worthless ( I don't have a garage, much less an electric door ) rear remote compartment and put the switch there.

I somehow took this ....

and turned it into this ....

and this .... (would you believe 27' of wire from the console to the temp sensor behind the grill )

I painted the shell of the console Med. Prairie Tan and swapped over the darker parts from a damaged console off a '98 Expy I had around. The unit is now an exact match for the 2 tone factory colors in my '99.

Thanks

I have a lot of fun doing stuff like this. At some point when I was in the middle of wiring the whole mess, I realized I'd created this ...

That's an amazing amount of plastic to come out of a reg cab truck

Damn you do good work! - you still working on my seat cover btw?

Hey , have to ask, that iduno, stuff you have wrapped around the harness keeping things tidy and neat looking, -what is it exactly?

I've done plenty of harness work and use non adhesive friction tape for harness wrap. Never seen the stuff your using.

Thanx!

That is absolutely awesome. I've have a Navigator Overhead just like that I've had for sale and now I'm debating keeping it after seeing this.

Every time I sit down to start your seat covers, another project pops up that has to be done. I promise when I run out of projects, I'll make them for you

If you're talking about the clearish stuff wrapped around the wires on the underside of the console, it's just 1/4" spiral loom I get at Home Depot. It's pretty handy in that it will wrap tightly around a variety of wire bundle sizes, and will take a bunch of loose wires and turn them into something flexible that will hold whatever shape you bend it into.

You should go for it, if for no other reason than the dome light is about 15,000 times better than the stock F-150 one

BTW Thanks for the link to the switches you posted up a few years back. That's where I first saw these switches ...
