Knock on Start up

Well guys the old ford has a new issue, it has a knock on startup and goes away after about 5 minutes, what should i do.to.corrrct this?

Depending on what causes the knock here is a list.
Piston slap that clears when heat expands the offending piston skirt to limit piston rock in it's bore.
Cam timing chains with worn tensioners and possibly low oil pressure.
Rod or main bearing.
You have to ID the source before knowing what to do about it.

Bluegrass: It clears up once the engine is warm and only does when the truck sits for 6 or more hours.

ishootstuff: Royal Purple 5w-20 with a KandN Gold oil filter

Well... I got nuthin' then. Right weight of oil and a silicone anti-drainback valve.

It may be an exhaust valve clearance.

There is no clearance to set on hydraulic lash adjusters, but you may be on to something. Possibly a lash adjuster is failing or clogged.
