That's possible, to get the parts and you install them yourself. My brother did that on his Mustang. I would imagine they'd check if you've a) had the work done previously so you aren't just scoring "spares" and b) waiving any warranty issues by you installing them yourself. I myself would just have them try and do it all in one shot. They looked pretty stupid when I brought mine in knowing the problem, strap did break, and they didn't have the parts. It was brought in today and is done as we speak, but still, wasted 2 hrs the other day. Good thing I live close.

Got my recall letter today for my 2000 F150. I had the rear strap replaced about 4 years ago. Went and looked under the truck and the newer one is fine. The front strap is rusted through. Called the dealer and I am taking it in tomorrow morning. I supported the front strap with a piece of rope just for the 10 minute drive to the dealer. Seems it has ben held up by only the rear strap because it looks like it has been rusted for some time.

Also:
According to the recall letter, parts and labor are covered and if you have had this done already you can get a refund.

Got my recall letter last week - about 3 years too late since I already replaced them when my tank was bouncing around loose on my skid plate . When I replaced mine I was surprised to find the straps were in stock at my local Autozone. I figured I'd have to order them. I think that says something about how many of these were failing.

Why they don't order them ahead and schedule it for a chosen day is bull. Going twice is a load. It's like they have to diagnose a obvious issue, then order from there. Let us know how it ends up. Mines done today and actually makes me think the straps been crap for a LONG time. Gas tank looks to be sitting a bit higher than I remember. Good thing for skid plates, yikes!

Why would you be surprised? When you registered the truck, the DMV sent in the VIN along with your name and address to a central database.

Just got my letter today, will have to contact the dealer to set up an appointment. Maybe get them to look into that p0232 code I've been getting for the fuel pump.

Called the ford dealership around the beginning of October and they scheduled me for Oct 26. Not thinking I filled my tank last Wed, Oct 5.... drove 1 mile through busy city traffic and pulled into a bank drive thru. While talking to the teller, my tank fell onto the ground! The truck shook so bad the tell asked if I was rearended. I can only image what would have happened had I been driving 55-70mph when it fell... GET THIS DONE!

Ford refuses to fix mine because the tank was damaged by the rear strap failure and I patched it. This was all before the recall. Then I get the recall and take it to the dealer and they won't do it because the strap is right where the patch is. Said I had to replace the tank before they would put the straps on. But the strap caused the damage to the tank.

Hi' I think if straps are going to be replaced this would be a good time to replace fuel pump. I just finished fuel pump install 2001 super crew and it is a pita. maybe not so bad if you have 2 floor jacks. jack stands and a nice worm garage. I had a problem with no starts a few times just swaped relays around and it would start. Not this last monday even bought new relays but no start. It has been around 25 for a high temp so got out some card board boxes and old blankets, one bottle jack and one screw jack and a few hand tools hardest job is R&R of fuel and emission lines real pita not to mention being cold and 63 years old it took me about 10 hours. I know being a heavy equipment mechanic for 47 yrs helped but if you are able bodied and young it would take less time and NO don't take the bed off but do remove the driveshaft and get a set of the curved fuel line removal tools. BUT best to get the pump installed when straps are being changed may save a few bucks as they want $ 500.00 to $750.00 at the FORD shop. and don't do it yourself while on vacation like I did without floor jacks and only an emergency tool supply once again necessity is the mother of invention. MY Straps are like new.GO figure
