So Ford 'only' plans to replace the gas tank straps on trucks from certain states up North - suppose I move to one of those stares next yearand I drive on salt covered roads and my straps rust out, the tank falls out and explodes. Seems Ford would be in a deep pile of trouble because they knew of the defect but 'assumed' no one from the exempted states would ever move ???

What if I live in Ft Lauderdale, FL and drive on the beach - the beach sand and the saltwater can also rust the straps just like the road salt up North. Should my straps be replaced???

Can road salt affect anything other than fuel tank straps?

just saying ...

I am surprised that this recall won't include southern states. My parents live in FL on the Atlantic side and it is a very corrosive area. They're constantly having to treat odd items like the door ***** on their house.

With that said, I don't think there is anything as corrosive or nasty as what they put on the roads up here in the winter. The road salt of years past was one thing, but this new chemical they're applying these days, sheesh. I won't be surprised to see many more recalls of this kinda up our way.

I wonder if it will end up being a two stage recall - the most likely to fail (due to climate) first, then everyone else. Ford would probably have hard time supplying the parts for everyone at once.

I am with ya on this... I have lived in Missouri all my life (which is part of the current recall) but less than a year ago I moved 40 miles across the stateline into Kansas to be closer to work. So where do I fit into this recall? Truck is currently tagged and titled in Kansas but was purchased in Mo 5 yrs ago. And I think it came from nebraska when I bought it.

well i recently replace my tank and straps up here in Canada. I just went out and checked under the truck to make sure the straps were holding up...they are but the frame where the rear strap slips into is rotten and the strap has almost pulled its way out of the frame. i put a ratchet strap to hold it in there. My question is what will they do for those older 97's that are in a salty snowy climate that the frame cannot support a new strap such as my 99. I'm a licensed mechanic at toyota and saw how well they took care of tacoma customers buying back their trucks due to rotten frames. I'm not asking ford to do this i'm just wondering what they will do when they run into a vehicle that cannot support the strap because im sure im not the only one with this problem of the strap pulling out of the frame

Hmm...I live in the Dallas, Texas area and I have a 99 F150 Ext cab. I have a strange thumping noise in my truck which sounds like it is behind me somewhere when I am coming to stop. I can't seem to pinoint where it is coming from. I wonder if this could be it? I'm gonna check it out when I get home from work. At least I can eliminate it as a source of the thumping if it isn't it.

look at the tank straps if there in there solid that aint your problem. I live in SALT lake city and I see UTAH is not on the Recall? wtf? we get cold and live in a corrosive environment period. I'm sure my trucks fine because I keep it clean in the winter but we should be on that recall..

I just noticed my gas tank is leaking at the corroded strap. It's clear the corrosion from the strap is causing the leak. Will Ford replace my entire gas tank?
My truck is one that is being recalled, 2000 f150

Are you sure the tank is plastic?

My truck originated in Kansas, IIRC. It's been here in omaha for at least 6 years. Checked mine last night. I have the skid plate, and my straps look just fine.

I've spoken with Ford twice and both times they said that if you have already paid to have this repair done , you still need to have the dealer inspect it, they replace with the new parts anyway, they take copies of your receipts and send them to Ford who then cuts you a check.

My tank was leaking and ready to fall off and explode. So, I had to replace mine last year. So if I can find the receipt (which I probably can't) ford will reimburse me for the strap, tank and labor?
