Help already changed thermostat

Even though my truck is not overheating, the temperature gauge will shoot up to hot and the oil light will come on. After a few minutes, the truck will not let me accelerate anymore. If I shut the truck off, it will reset the oil light and the temp gauge and run fine for a while. But eventually, it will do the same thing again. Is it a sensor or computer problem

try replacing your cap on your coolant resevior tank, thats what was causing my overheating cause it couldnt release the pressure, or if you want to make sure that its your cap on your tank, just crack the cap open a tiny bit and see if the problem persists

Maybe a dumb question but did you fill up the coolant properly? Then, burp it? You can leave the cap off. Why the oil light comes on, hum???? Sounds like your truck is in limp mode when the coolant temp goes up. Your oil pressure switch might be f'd too.

probably faulty sensors giving wrong info wich sounds likley since you can shut it off and turn back on and be fine again. id replace the oil pressure switch and the coolant temp switch and see if it fixes it.

Failsafe cooling mode will peg the needle and turn on the oil pressure light. When it overheats is the coolant really hot? A faulty CHT ( Cylinder Head Temp) sensor will cause this. Does the degas bottle overflow?

The overflow bottle with the rad cap. So if the coolant is not hot and this is happening it points towards a defective CHT sensor. Year and engine of your truck?

Hi your not alone, I seam to be experiencing a similar problem with my 91 5.0. I;m a motorcycle mechanic instructor so I;m no novice, but not a ford tech either. Heres the deal. recently while driving the truck it takes a short time to warm up, occasionally though my temp gage will rise almost out of the operating range then suddenly drop to normal. I have noticed it tends to do this under light throttle applications, if I pick up the rpm to oh about 2K the temp drops in a matter of a few seconds. The only things not replaced in the last year in the cooling system was the water pump and the lower hose. Question, has any one had problems like this, and/or has any one had a pump impeller come loose on the shaft? Thinking must be the latter! Stay tuned I;m going to change the pump and lower hose today.
