It wont start!!
It wont start!!
My 99 f150 2wd 4.2 auto died in the driveway,It does crank over, but has not started since. I have done the following based upon suggestions....1. replaced the cam position sensor, not synchronizer, just the sensor.
2. replaced the crankshaft postion sensor.
3. I have never heard the fuel pump run on this vehicle, so I cant tell if it is running, I do have to get under the truck and have someone else turn the key.
4. I checked the inertia switch, tripped it and reset it.
5. I have replaced checked all fuses and replaced the fuel pump relay just in case.
6. Today I borrowed a scanner to check the codes....no codes! It is an innova 3030....it shows no "pending codes", though the yellow indicator lite is on.
It will try to run on starting fluid, actually carb cleaner, not "starting fluid".
I also tryed to replace the fuel filter....it has a metal clip on each end that flips up to release the hose...no problem with the clips, but I can't seem to pull the hose off of the filter, is it just difficult or do I need a Tool
The front clip on the filter can be difficult. It takes some effort. You need the tool to get the ends off.
My feeling is that your fuel pump is gone. It will run with starting fluid only. Unless you run very dirty fuel, or you have not changed the filter in 100,000 miles, the fuel filter should still pass fuel.

You need a simple scanner to pull DTC's. You also should have AT LEAST a Haynes or Chiltons manual. No, that's not how the filter comes off lol.
But your getting close, - I think it's the pump, if it died that way. You can try the hammer trick.

??
oOO no, it can do many magical things. Give it a few love bumps in the center bottom side of the tank. Also, when you turn the key into the on position, you should hear the fuel pump kick on and prime, if not... well try the hammer and see if you can hear it then. I have seen many people make it home with a bad pump that way.

You have a CEL and, well , according to #6 -
"6. Today I borrowed a scanner to check the codes....no codes! It is an innova 3030....it shows no "pending codes", though the yellow indicator lite is on."
The Innova can't handle a simple DTC scan, - because, you have one in memory.

Yes, with key in on position....but it always comes on when the key is in the on position, goes out when engine is started, but of course Mine wont start to see if it goes out.....got the filter changed...I think I heard the pump prime up......am going to check it again in a few minutes.....
That's the Humane way to do it lol. I can always hear the pumps run, from in the cab on the 97-03's, - v6 or v8.

Pull the Crank Position sensor connector and clean the inside real well. Do what you have to do to get in there, use a q-tip w/alcohol or something. Just to make sure you have a good connection down there. That CAN cause a No Start.
Brew,
I had a 2000 Pontiac TA once that had a bad fuel pump. Cranking was just as he described...or should I say...non cranking. The starter was workin its *** off.
I bought a $18 test kit, put it on and realized the pump was still making the noise of activating ( priming ) , but was only producing 8lbs of FP.
Sometimes they dont fail all together ( dead ). Also, found out that after all of that, I never once threw any ses light for the FP malfunction...wow!
This could have just been because it was a GM...
I agree too regarding the crank position sensor.

Iduno, for some reason, I don't think he owns one lol.
