Yea wtf's this timer shlitz?? - Anyway, biggrey's explanation of what happens after the four seconds make good sense. Like I said, I wasn't sure after that point.

Also, I assumed you completed diagnostics confirming the pump as the problem. PM your E-mail Ad and I'll send the R&R for the fuel pump. Like above, but, -you'll get the diagrams that go with.

JBREW, re WTF....thats just me overthinking the possible problems, I have been in Industrial Maint for so long.....processing and packaging automation is based on time delays........each step happening at just the right moment.....

I haven't messed with the crank position sensor before, so I don't know if it can be adjusted.

If you attach a test light to the fuel pump circuit you'll find out what the computer knows about the crank position. My earlier post is based on the explanation in the Haynes manual and my personal experience from troubleshooting this last month. My pump was bad, so I know what the electrical system does under these conditions.

- I sent yuh two separate procedures, -Tank & Pump. I sent from Micro Office. I'm not sure Yahoo will open, you should have diagrams. Let me know if you can't open them. We'll figure something else out. - I know Gmail will open them, just not sure about Yahoo.

These guys are a lot of help and saved me big time. I just went thru this a few months ago. I used two long ropes to tie around frame and driveshaft and tied a slip knot. Be sure and disconnect battery first thing. Loosen and remove 2 tanks straps and tank will sit in ropes. Let a little slack in one rope at a time, until low enough to disconnect electrical connector and the two lines connected to fuel pump assembly. I didn't have to disconnect anything else. Remove the screws on fuel pump assebly, (I think i had like 8). You may have to lower tank a little more to remove fuel pump assembly. After removing, use a brush and brush debris away from tank hole. Then a clean rag and gas to clean around tank hole, so you get a good seal when putting back. I replaced pump. Cleaned black ring good, was in good shape, just clean and a little oil on it. Took me 3 hours total, and i'm not certified by no means. Just listened to jbrew and others on here. Saved big bucks. Cranked right up. Oh and if you open gas door and remove cap, you can hear it easily. Good Luck.

Well Guys.....it started!! After 229,105 miles I suppose a new fuel pump was in order....luvmyfordalways...I used your idea about slinging the tank, except I used a couple of tie down straps, the ones with the thumb release vs the ratcheting type. That and a floor jack and I was done in about 4 hours, not including the trip to Napa to get the new pump! Thanks to all you guys for the info, tips and suggestions......
