Air pocket in the coolant system?

So heres what I got,

1998 with the 4.6L. Got a new thermostat (OE) put in, a coolant flush a couple weeks ago,...

After truck is running temp, my heat is kinda warm, but not that nice and toasty. If I turn the heat off for a couple minutes, then turn it back on, its hot for a bit (15-20 seconds roughly) then back to the warm.

Sound like an air pocket in the heater core? What do yall think? And if it is how the hell do I get it out?!?!?!?!

Did you buy a Motorcraft replacement thermostat with the bleed hole?

I have also read about putting a valve inline by the heater core for flushing... Anyone got any ideas on that?

Something like this..

Open the degas bottle, run the engine to closed loop and heater on max. As the thermostat opens, use a shop rag and squeeze the water return pipe. Air will escape out of the degas bottle

Raptor:

I realize this is an older thread, but should you shut off motor once the engine reaches operating temp and the thermostat opens or leave it running?

Doesnt seem like it would matter once the thermostat is open, and safer with it off...

Basically warm up, heater max heat, also easiest to lift the front end up to help get air trapped in the top of the heater core

Right, -allot cleaner as well. The 4x4s get a little high before they level off. Unless you remove the rear wheels and drop it first lol.

Do I bleed off air with engine running or off? Seems like once the thermostat opens it wouldnt matter. I do have a 4x4, so I will have to jack up front end or lower rear end to do this!
