Car alarm

in your most professional opinion what is the best car alarm for my truck..keep in mind it does not have electric locks, I just want something that if someone tries to break in it will kill them, or at least have a loud siren go off and imobilize the truck

As far as best That is up for debate, but you need to make sure that it gets installed well. Since the best system won't do you any good if it has a poor install and only takes 5 sec to disable it, I have dealt a couple of them that have been this way.

I currently have a Clifford Matrix 50.7x on my truck. It has been great for me. I have a more basic Clifford unit on my Jeep.

any of the DEI products have lifetime warranties on them. i have a Viper 5701 installed on my accord & an avital 5303 installed on my scab. been very happy with both of them. the viper is a newer model. if it was out when i got the alarm on my scab, i would have gotten it too.

I have one on my 2003, a Viper 5002. It is a great system, very reliable. I have had my siren replaced once because it got water damaged. I took it to the authorized dealer I had it done at and it took them about 30mins. Parts and Labor didn't cost anything. I have taken it back and had it tweaked a few times to have the proximity changed and that is also free of charge. Just make sure the work is done at a Authorized Installer/Dealer or the Lifetime Warranties don't apply.

*Just personally, after having work done by both Best Buy and Circuit City(when around) on a Corolla I noticed very poor jobs on both. They actually damaged the clock in it by cracking it. I personally would go to a more specialized place that just does auto electronics. I'm not saying your friend can't do it but personal experiences have led me away from having retailers working on it and because of that I haven't let them work on my truck.*

I wanted to add a couple other positives about Viper(and all of DEI I believe, but not sure):
  • The cost of the install is included in the price of the system for what is in the system you choose. If bought and done by Authorized Dealer.
  • There is a lifetime warranty on all labor but only a 1 or 2 year warranty on the parts if I recall correctly.
  • Up to $2,500 refund from insurance deducible if theft occurs in first year. MORE INFO

Hopefully that also helps,
-Russ03

Every company is going to have hacks, and every company is going to have guys that do it right. Thats just the nature of the game. The life time warranty is on the product itself, not the labor. Most shops do not guarantee their install for the life of the vehicle. Best Buy does. Also, what happens if your on a road trip and your alarm goes haywire? Your SOL, and have to pay to have a different shop troubleshoot it, or try it yourself. Best buy's warranty is nationwide. No one else can touch that. Just remember, just because we work or worked for best buy, that doesn't necessarily mean that we are hacks.

I have the 2nd one and they only issue I have had is it will tell me that I am out of rang even though I am standing next to the truck, then after a little bit be just fine. I also think the siren is a little weak but that could also be from filling it with water and mud.

I am kind of hoping to rig it with a train horn or just a really loud horn(or if i can get a hold of it a police siren) so if some one tries to break in everyone will know
