My engine is Ruined

it is pouring rain out here in So Cal and my engine is not firing on all cylinders, It finally threw a code but i cant check it,(scanner took a dive or something) well i know its water at the plugs because it has happened twice now and i lost one motor because of this, my question is How can this problem be fixed permanently???, i hate that my 4x4 is scared of water, i cant have fun after the rain, and now i cant drive to work! please help me with any suggestions,

I have replaced plugs and wires twice in two years, replaced engine too since this is reoccuring and ruins me, gonna spray WD40 on the engine to repel water in the morning, im screwed i know it

Sheck your fuses, probably blew the fuse to the cigarette lighter / power outlet. If I remember right that fuse also supports the plugin for the scanner.
If I'm wrong about which fuse, someone will chime in to let you know.
But I seriously doubt you need a new engine, if you have done your maintenance and not beat the hell out of it. Check for water in the sparkplug wells, and the you plug wires aren't dried out or contacting metal anywhere.

Do a forum search on Di electric grease, and read up on it. You may find the answers to your problems.

You must have an Essex V6, if you have wires. It would be good to post your engine size regardless. Easier to help. I like it after or during a hard rain, -washes the undercarriage

BTW - WD40 ?? No wonder your having problems. You need to break that habit.

Define "having fun in the rain". If you're sending huge rooster tails off your wheels due to driving fast in the deep water then I'm not surprised you have an issue with all the electrical components in these engines. I like playing in the water just as much as the next guy, you just have to take it slow.

do you have a body lift? or have the inner fender liners removed? wires could be on the older 4.6....if it were me i would vacuum out the water by the plugs or soak the water up with rags, make sure its dry, pull the plugs and replace everything, plugs, wires, and coils.....much cheaper then an entire engine

You must not have something right, my truck has no prob with "Deep water". And my friend down the street with a 98 4.6, "plug wires" has no prob either

That is correct. They had to do it when I got my inspection done last year.

What! Then the wires thing must be a typo ehh. Thanks for enlightening

Mannn, If he does have a V8 and spraying WD40 all over the coils (COP system), like a mad man. Well , that's just nuts lol.

Yea, he can try drying them off, but I bet their spent now.

Alright sorry about that guys, I've been misinformed by other people about little things here and there on this topic,

Yes i have the 5.4 to clear it up and i didnt know it was coil packs not plugs, my bad

and one of the guys i work with suggested wd40, glad you guys got here before i did it, would have felt like a jackass

i dont romp it hard, i wish i could but its my daily driver so i cant,

and for fun after the rain i meant go cruise around the local hills and get it a little dirty maybe a donut or two, but im worried about water all the time,

and two years ago when i first got my truck this same thing happened and it went on for about a week then on my way to school i spun a rod bearing if that is what i remember it was called, i made it home barely and it would have cost the same to fix that or drop a used engine in, so we did the engine with 35% of the miles on it

and once again thank you azmidget for helping out and paying attention to both forums

You don't have coil packs either lol. Yea it's confusing at first.

A Coil Pack runs more than 1 cylinder , a pack or more than one.

COP systems, which is what you have, uses dedicated coils, 1 coil per cylinder.

Their just coils. Some call them COP's = CoilOverPlug

You have plugs too.

As for COPs I find that when one goes bad its better to replace all of them. Plus when installing put a little di electric grease on the end/inside the COP before putting it on the plug.

WD40 was developed to displace water. That's what the WD stands for. A large portion of it is fish oil.
