it won't compromise ball joints, it wears more on the cv joints and pitman/idler arms, but nothing serious or immiediate. Its more of a problem on the GM trucks..

I can get a set for 20 bucks at my local yard if I pull them....just 2wd springs but it doesn't matter, all I need is two of them....Put them under the 3rd spring down, got to get the 60 dollar set of u bolts though..bahh. I'll do it in the spring probably, the woodstove I've got is too small to keep the 3 car garage very warm....

I've heard from a ford mechanic that the 97-98's if turned too much they used to break so don't max them out

why do you need longer u bolts? how many are you adding per side?

2.....my friend added 2 and he had to get longer u bolts, U bolts stretch also, and aren't supposed to be re-used...not that anyone goes by that, just stating...but if you really don't need new ones for adding two then I won't bother, I think though that the stockers are too short. what snapped on the 97-98 trucks? The t bars or pitman/idler arms? I've never heard of or seen a t bar break, ford or gm, ever.

Supporting more weight... Would adding TIMBRENS be a possibility?
I replaced the stock 'bumpers' (sit on the rear axles) with a set TIMBRENS for maybe $50 bucks?
When I replaced my tires, I stepped up to an LT tire 'C' load rated.
Worked great in the rear, no more sag when I picked up a yard of loom, or stone.
Maybe Timbrens can be used in the front, too?

Yes they can be used on the front as well as the rear. People with plows swear by timbrens up front most of the time.
