Painting Dash and Cupholder Removal

Ive painted most of my dash black but i need to get the cupholder/ashtray out without breaking it to paint it. cant seem to find a way but im sure its really simple.

any help?

also heres a pic. i deleted the airbag selector switch in the radio surround looks cleaner to me

Pull the cup holder out. Have two flat head screw drivers handy. If you look on top of the cup holder behind the dash, on the left and right are two tabs. Use the screw drivers to press the tabs down and the whole cup holder will pull out. That is how I remember it anyway.

Jake, from experiences I've had, before you put the cupholder back in, take that steel piece that springs the cupholders out, looks like a set of lips, and rivet (2) it to the plastic piece it glues normally to. This holds it on good.

what is that to accomplish? i already put it back in but its not locking in the out position any more. have to look at it today in the light

it wasnt too cold during the day on saturday about 60-65 and i have a covered patio at my apt that blocks the wind so its all good
