oil change from hell.
oil change from hell.
so i set out to do an oil change today, no big deal right? well the oil filter was on there so tight i could not get it off by hand. so i go to oriellys to get a oil filter socket and go home to try it out. well i got the wrong size so i had to go back to oriellys. i finally get the sucker off (the oil filter on these trucks is such a bad placement) and finish putting in oil. start the truck up to move it out of the garage, and i there is a stream of oil following me! so i shut the truck off to figure out what happened. turns out the o ring from the original oil filter stayed on the engine and i didnt notice when i put the new oil filter on. finally got everything fixed, it just sucks because i lost about 25 dollars worth of synthetic oil down the drive way. sorry such a long post i just figured it would give someone a good laugh.
sad thing is this morning it gets worse. i was so tired last night that when i finally got new oil (walmart is soooooo slow) i forgot to put the oil cap back on. yup went out this morning to double check oil level and bam no oil cap! on the way to dealership...
Oh man.......Im sorry

Yikes, that sucks man.
I remember back when I had my 97 F-150, One time I cross threaded the oil filter, started her up and oil sprayed all over the bottom of the truck. I really learned a lesson that day.

Had the same thing happen to me, old filter left the o-ring stuck to the fitting. Now, i always check. Also figured out it's easier to turn the wheel all the way to the right, makes it a little easier to manuever the filter out.
Ive always done mine all the way to the left. But im sure either way helps out alot. gets the steering linkage out of the way
i put mine up on ramps, so theres no way for me to get the linkage out of the way. i put a piece of cardboard behind the filter before i unscrew it so it dosent leak oil all over the crossmember
