Let’s Do the Time Warp…in a 1978 F-150 Explorer

Perfectly preserved Ford truck seems like it’s been frozen in time for 40 years.
Over the last couple of decades, most classic trucks have undergone major transformations. This is particularly true of trucks from the 1970s. Why would anyone mess with such a great thing, you ask? Well, a lot of folks consider certain design elements from that era to be a bit tacky. But us true enthusiasts see them as something very different — something that deserves to be preserved.
Thankfully, there are at least a few folks out there that have done just that. This 1978 Ford F-150 is a perfect example of that. We caught the vintage Ford on the Hemmings classifieds, where it’s being advertised ahead of the 2017 Carlisle auction on April 19 to 23. And we can only hope that the new owner keeps it just the way it is.
This ’78 Explorer proudly wears its original trim and graphics, along with a very ’70s brown/beige color combination. The wheels and tires have obviously been changed over the years, but slotted mags and white wall tires suit it just fine. As do the diamond plated running boards and old school bug visor.
So, instead of trying to cover up or hide the style of classic Ford trucks, embrace it instead. This ’78 is proof that they’re beautiful just the way they are. Of course, this doesn’t mean you can break out those bell bottom pants just yet. We have to draw the line somewhere, after all.
