New 5.4 engine had to be installed
After my check engine came on on my "early build" 2005 Lariet, I was told that the injectors had failed and poured gas into the engine when I was driving back from the airport and I needed new injectors. Next the dealership told me that a rod had been blown through the engine (I can't believe it couldn't have happened while I was driving as nothing happened except the check engine light).
Then I was told I needed a new engine and that Ford was sending a representative to look at the truck and check my maintenance records (I had to go to Texas and was not in Kansas City when all this was happening). Then there was talk of giving me a short block or an entirely new engine.
Fifteen days later I have my truck back with an entirely new engine. Total cost was $8,428.16. Apparently, the cost of the engine was $4,544 with a total engine parts cost of $6,108.70.
I read some information about this occuring in other "early" 05's. The "new" engine was given "another" 36,000 mile warantee. I guess this has turned out okay.

I am pleased that Ford backed up my problem. I told the servie manager at the dealership that I had purchased the top of the line truck from them and I expected top of the line service from them. I got it and I am pleased. I have had three other Ford trucks over the years and like 'em.
I don't believe that I could have driven the truck with a rod through the engine. That's why I think it must have been done at the dealership when/after they had "fixed" the injector problem.
