Mobil 1 oil change intervals

If the factory recomends changing oil every 5k miles and Mobil one states that a regular oil change of 3k miles can be extended, how many miles is really appropriate to run Mobil 1 fully synthetic in a 2004 5.4L engine? Most of the use is just standard street driving, nothing too strenuous, although some on road four wheel driving in the northeast snow.

think of it like this..

change it at 3000 every chance you get. but if cash is tight that week you have room to wait til next week.

Standard Mobil 1 is good for 7500 miles or 6 months, whichever occurs first. This assumes you use a quality filter.

Check your oil!

Many moons ago I had a turbo charged car that I had turbo issues with. Question I had was also how often to change oil. Had the oil checked after several different intervals. Factory interval the oil was loaded with coke (burnt oil), went to lower miles and less coke. At around 2500 to 3000 it was negligable. I drive one way, you drive another. It was also a differnt vehicle. The moral is if you really want to know when you should change your oil in your vehicle get the oil checked. My results were very surprising to me. I now change every 3000 miles regardless of type oil. Its the trash and contaminents that count. Only way to get ride of them is to change the oil and filter .

I change every 6k miles with a MC filter. Add a qt of oil at 3k miles.

I just rolled over 180,000 miles not too long ago and regularly tow the TT in my sig....

Works for me...

Mitch

Turbos are a whole different story due to the coking issue. Those have to be changed a lot more frequently.

Quality filter

Thanks for the input, I think that I will change oil around 7500. When you suggest a quality filter, do you mean something along the lines of a Fram Double gaurd or Napa supreme? Is there something better? :santa:

I have never been impressed with FRAM products, stick with EOM to make sure you have a quality filter designed for your engine

Good filters? Motorcraft, Wix (NAPA Gold), Mobil 1, Purolator, Amsoil.
