Test drove the 5.0 and then the eco back to back. Took same exact route and did my best to duplicate the exact drive. Loved the sound of the 5.0 also loved how freaking quiet the eco was just setting there. Both trucks performed to my expectations but the 5.0 won out. Nothing against the eco, just wasnt for me. If I need the turbo rush I will drive the car.

I would've chosen the first option during the honeymoon phase with my truck. Now, I chose "Its just another engine... take it or leave it".
Fuel mileage is decent, but not great. Power is great, but only at significant sacrifice to fuel mileage. My number one complaint is now the stutter everyone is talking about. I'm on the national parts back-order list for the TSB that will hopefully fix the problem. Until then, literally every single time I mash the go pedal (and I don't mean flooring it), it falls on it's face and I have to let out. What a crock.
My blood runs blue and I love my truck, but I am not convinced the EB is the rockstar I hoped it would be just yet.
FWIW - 44k miles in almost exactly 24 months. Lots of them with a boat or motorcycle trailer in tow. I do not baby my truck to the nth degree, nor should I have to.

I've only got about 5k miles on mine so far. I love it but feel a little let down about the MPG. I did my research before and knew it wasn't going to be a gas sipper like the name implies but expected a bit of an improvement from the 5.4 in my 10 King Ranch. Still very happy with the truck and engine performance as a whole just don't find anything "eco" about it. Also I do kind of miss the sound of a v8. In 2 years when it's time for a new one I'll probably go with a 6.2.

If these are like the turbo's of the 70's/80's, I'll give them 6 years on the road before either people start dumping them because either their "Certified Mechanics" mucked up the engine (though another required repair) or cost of repairs is so high you might as well take the $ and buy a new truck......

They are not, they are oil cooled and water cooled.
I doubt it but some of the narrow minded people think that way.

Im liking my pretty good so far. Got one of the first ones out I guess, since they started putting them in the trucks in or around Feb 2011. I got mine June 2011. I am slightly disappointed in fuel mileage around town but its mainly my fault. Its just so darn fun to drive and hearing those turbos hiss makes you want to go faster. Plenty of power and everyone who rides with me cant believe its a V6. I would like to have a little more powerful sound like the V8 but if i was buying again, it would be a tough choice, 5.0 or Eco. I have pulled several kinds of trailers including a rented Bobcat. Pulled great, but the trailer brakes were not working good so stopping was a little touchy. I dont like the slight 1 second delay for the power to kick in like when you a trying to cross the road. you have to get used to that and plan for it. for the first month or so driving it, everytime i pulled out somewhere in a hurry trying to beat traffic, it spun the tires. fun, but took a while to learn how to drive it. overall, 90% happy. i bought it based upon the supposed durability of it. we will find out.
