Does the noise kind of sound like rattling when you shake a spray paint can? It's more then likely pinging or detonation. I would run a tank of higher octane gas and see if it still does it. Also, search the this site on "pinging" or "detonation" for some good information.

Ever look in your toolbox and find something new?! It's like finding the nifty tool called: "" in your toolbox. Just patiently sitting there waiting for you to use it...

So I got it out of my toolbox, and used it...

Read this...

https://www.f150online.com/forums/v6...illing-me.html

It's from that nifty little thing bolted to the header bolt... it's called a engine hoist bracket. Unless you plan on pulling the engine tomorrow, I'd suggest taking it off, and leaving it someplace safe... like maybe with your owners manual or something... or you can do like 90% of the people and throw it out. (The other 10% are smart and recycle it and get back $0.02 from the steel! j/k!)

If you didn't feel like reading the linky... then here's a picture (courtesy of Bulldogbud):

Want to hear something totally ironic?!

Mine just started making the noise today.

Guess what?

I used my ratchet and took it off and put it in my toolbox for later use.

I still vote that it's pinging\spark knock, since he said it only happens when he gets on the gas.

It did it on mine only when accelerating. Otherwise it was quiet...

I had a similiar noise on my truck today, I had an old rusty exhaust clamp rattling around that I just ripped off with my gloves. Then I realized I had another similiar noise. Turns out the bottom heat shield above the front cross member wasn't really attached to the upper one anymore. I tried to re-crimp it but everything was too rusty to hold. So I ripped that off too and pitched it.
